YouTube today announced its decision to make the “dislike” count on videos private across its platform. The decision is likely to be controversial given the extent that it impacts the public’s visibility into a video’s reception.
But YouTube believes the change will better protect its creators from harassment and reduce the threat of what it calls “dislike attacks” — essentially, when a group teams up to drive up the number of dislikes a video receives.
The company says that while dislike counts won’t be visible to the public, it’s not removing the dislike button itself. Users can still click the thumbs down button on videos to signal their dislike to creators privately.
Meanwhile, creators will be able to track their dislikes in YouTube Studio alongside other analytics about their video’s performance, if they choose.
The change follows an experiment YouTube ran earlier this year whose goal was to determine if these sorts of changes would reduce dislike attacks and creator harassment.

Aww... YouTube has pedo Joe’s back. Isn’t that sweet.
Dislike attacks are bad, but cornholing choppers are just fine.
Google in renaming themselves Alphabet was trying to be as God.
God who said “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.”
I like making fun of those people. You go look up one of the great songs and see 400,000 likes and 252 dislikes and you’re reminded that some people just can’t experience joy.
Dementia Joe peeing his pants over all the massive number of “dislikes” on his videos?
Yup.
After banning conservative videos only liberal videos will be left and they don’t want you to see how badly the liberal ones are disliked.
CNN, MSNBC etc also no longer have comments on their homepage.
On CNN FB page 95% of the comments bash CNN.
Yup.
How does Google propose to stop massive “Let's Go Brandon” attacks in the streets/parks against Dementia Joe then?
I wonder if there is any candidate named Brandon who has the balls to make that their campaign slogan.
I would laugh if there were legally protected lawn signs and media advertisements...
NOOOO you can’t have a dissenting opinion! Only thumbs up, only happy faces in Biden’s America!
Some people are just a-holes I guess. There is a young guy with auto repair videos called Chris Fix. His videos are outstanding and have helped me on a couple of occasions. The detail and amount of time he spends getting good camera angles in tight places are amazing. He will add links to the parts he uses in the written description. And yet there are a-holes (not many) who still give him thumbs down. Maybe they have competing YouTube pages?
I subscribed to The White House YouTube Channel under President Trump. I was going to unsubscribe when Biden stole the election, but decided to stay and give down-votes to every video they posted. I’ve been doing it every day since January 20th, and I got in the habit, of going back through the past week of their videos, to make sure that my down-votes were still registered. If they’d been removed, I added them again. I have noticed that on videos that were posted as “scheduled,” if you voted on it before the completed video was actually posted, that your down-vote would be removed. I still go back and check my previous down-votes for their videos, but haven’t recently noticed that any my down-votes have been removed.
Dislike counter on youtube hasnt worked correctly in years. Glad to see they are on top of things.
“Everybody gets a trophy!”
Dislikes might hurt someone’s feelings. Can’t have that.

Bet this is to mask the big “dislike” ratio that I’ve seen for many of the pro-covid-vaxx propaganda videos I’ve seen on youtube.
Google keeps trying to constrain expression of their user base and control what can be viewed; all to their bias. The ultimate result will be a stagnant echo-chamber platform.
Your positive feedback is welcome. Only we are allowed to provide negative feedback. Makes feedback worthless.
If my mother-in-law knew how to youtube she’d be one of those down voters. Some just want to be the rain on the parade and the poop at the party.
Who didn’t see this coming?
Does ANYONE remember when they used to show downvote counts on comments? And then all the sensitive little gingersnaps got offended when an inane comment got down-voted into the cellar ...
