Majority of Texans back COVID-19 vaccine, mask mandates: poll

A new poll from the University of Texas and the Texas Tribune indicates that the majority of people in the state support schools and indoor places requiring masks as well as allowing businesses to issue vaccine mandates.

The survey of 1,200 people showed that 57 percent of Texas voters support masking in indoor locations in the state, reports The Texas Tribune, and finds that 58 percent back masking requirements in schools. Forty percent opposed the indoor masking requirements and 39 percent opposed masking in schools.

Texas has emerged as a ground zero in the debate over masks and vaccines, with Texas joining other states in suing the Biden administration over its vaccine-or-testing mandate for businesses with at least 100 employees.

I live in a city, travel between the largest ones constantly and only see a few masks anywhere.

Texas tribune is a opinion pushing propaganda organization and nothing more.

If the demonic liar commies can utilize the dead for elections, why not have their media apparatus poll the “negative responses” to all questions from a sizable cemetery or two.

Its simple, walk the cemetery and then report the overwhelming “negative responses”.

600 people out of a population of 10 million+ now constitute a majority.

Oh yeah, that’s total BS. More like wishful thinking on the media’s part.

Maybe they mean Austin.

Did you take this poll in Austin and call it majority of Texans or something?

Probably just polled the UT campus.

In really rural areas in Texas, no one EVER wore a mask.

Many colleges in New England required jabs and masks indoors despite a 95-99% jab rate but none are dumb enough to require them outside..

Apparently. I work in downtown Houston, which is hardly a conservative bastion, and barely anyone is wearing a mask indoors. I also went to a big, crowded Houston Bar Association function last night--not exactly a Trump rally. Virtually no one wearing a mask.

It was funny. I had a hearing in court yesterday, and I had to wear a mask for the first time in months because of a mask mandate at the courthouse. But then, a couple hours later, I saw the very same judge at the bar association event, as well as the administrative judge who imposed the mask mandate at the courthouse. Neither were wearing masks, of course, and both were happy to shake my hand.

It's just more evidence that no one of consequence actually believes that masks work.

The University of Texas and the Texas Tribune are both communist organizations. I would not believe any “poll” they are involved with.

I deal with COVID every day and I believe this.

The anti-COVID people are very passionate, but my constant contact with the public leads me to believe that masks and vaccines are very popular. If there were a vote on it, I think COVID restrictions would win handily.

Polls are also saying Beto is withing 1 point of Abbott right now. If true, it might be a very bad year for Texas next election.

Surely you don’t believe that masks are effective, do you, yourself?

Depends on the situation.

For general public outdoor use, certainly not. Are there selected indoor situations where they make a difference? Probably. Do I use them every day in the hospital? Of course I do.

Anticipating the next question, do two surgical masks reduce the DOSE of virus if one of the two people have COVID? Yes they do.

Is the infectious DOSE known? No it is not, but all the epidemiology suggests it's not super low (like measles).
