James Webb telescope: Hubble's successor to launch in six weeks after years of delays

It’s taken 25 years to build, has faced long delays, and cost many billions of dollars more than expected, but the countdown is finally on to launch the James Webb telescope, the successor to the Hubble Space Telescope.

In just six weeks, a powerful rocket is expected to carry into space the most ambitious space telescope ever built, one promising to revolutionize how we see the universe.

At a news conference this week, scientists said that after more than a decade of delays, the James Webb telescope is finally ready to fly.

It’s not a successor to Hubble. Webb is an infrared scope and Hubble is a visible scope, and their are no plans to put a new visible scope up.

Elon Musk should offer to buy Hubble for a dollar and go save it. He could easily make his money back by renting time on it if he can figure out how to keep it up there.

Nah, the BFR has plenty of cargo space. Build a new, updated and much bigger Hubble that just fits on the BFR and launch that sucker.

#21 It is a telescope and a rocket. I guess Elon Musk could have launched in about a year. Look at the number of launches he has compared to the others. The others are tied to gov’t contracts.

Some buy and sell used rocket parts

Some place bets on the kettle run.

Some mine asteroids for precious metals.

Some make a living pirating and robbing other spaceships.
