80% effective? CDC chief floats argument for permanent mask mandate

TRENDING: Virginia secedes from Biden's party Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Rochelle Walensky is declaring that masks can reduce the chance of infection from COVID-19 by 80%, contrary to studies by the CDC itself and real-world data.

Further, Walensky indicated that masks could become a staple of American life, adding that they "also help protect from other illnesses like common cold and flu."

Her guidance came in a tweet Friday spotlighting a video produced by the CDC...

Yale Law School professor Samantha Godwin said the CDC director has made "a specific empirical claim for which no data exists."

"Misinformation breeds justified distrust," she said on Twitter.

Many citizens wonder what public officials really believe about the "science" behind masking when they see them engage with the public.

Remarkable how the cdc guidance changed from NO MASK CAN STOP A VIRUS. ITS LIKE TRYING TO STOP A MOSQUITO WITH A CHAIN LINK FENCE to now 80% masks are effective at trapping those tiny things. N95 masks stop down to .3 microns. The covid virus is .06 to .14 microns so even the professional mask won’t stop it much less the Chicom paper mask or fabric masks. Those figures were touted by the CDC itself. And people wonder why no one takes this organization cannot be believed.

Ultimately, this all comes down to managing personal risk, and the reality that some risks can't be avoided. For example, in the world of investing, there is a concept of risk-minimization whereby you lower your risk of loss or volatility by spreading your eggs across several baskets. However, one risk you cannot diversity away is the "systematic risk" or the risk inherent in the system...call it market risk or whatever, the basic reality is some baseline level of risk will ALWAYS exist, and you can't avoid it.

Laws that support, life, liberty, and property are right and proper. Some laws act as a deterrent and will stop people on the margin from doing bad things...this is akin to diversifying away the non-systematic risk.

However, at some baseline level, in a relatively free society of 330MM people, you'll always have sick people sneezing on the subway, touching doorknobs after wiping their nose with their hands, or not washing after going to the lavatory. This is the systematic risk of a free society. Sure, maybe some laws can help - spitting or whizzing in public - but in large measure unless you weld a GoPro to the heads of 330MM people with central monitoring in DC (and even that wouldn't be perfect...after all people in jail still get drugs and weapons), people are gonna be people.

Let's extend this to the pandemic. There is a risk of infection. And death. It's a thing. So controls were enacted to "flatten the curve" blah blah blah. Maybe...MAYBE on the margin some of them helped. That's for a different thread.

But NOW...people want to ELIMINATE the risk of COVID19 death or infection with ludicrous ideas like permanent masking. Of course that's stupid-talk, and in reality this bug will likely be around forever, and eternal negativity just like influenza, bad taste in apparel, and Springsteen's music.

Rather than deal with this reality, the reality of the systematic risk of a free society is that people don't want to get shots or wear masks, pathological politicians propose legislation - aimed at the systematic risk, which by definition you can't evade/will always be there - that simply erodes the freedoms of law-abiding citizens.

A recent study in Bangladesh, had just under half of rural villagers wear masks and they saw a 10% reduction in infections. But these were surgical masks and not cloth masks.

a 10% reduction sounds reasonable, and useful in remote areas before vaccines or treatments can get there, but unless Walensky is talking fitted N95’s, 80% is way out there in lalaland.

Amen. Getting shots is a personal choice. Many people on this board got them (Jim Rob did...), and I don't consider them Deep Staters or sheep or whatever. Everyone's health and what makes them get through the day isn't my business OR something by which I should ridicule or cheer them.

Aside from the control agenda behind this insanity, another powerful factor driving it is the atheistic Left’s foolish obsession with eliminating any possibility of death. Since they don’t believe in God or in the afterlife (aside from appeals to the new age “universe”, which they love because being impersonal, it cannot require anything of them), they know deep down that they have no hope unless, in their minds, they can somehow achieve immortality in this life. I am for people making their own personal medical choices. Every one of us is the only one that lives in our body, no one else does. No one is more concerned about your body than you. Its yours alone. Only you live with the consequences of your decisions the rest of your life, good or bad.

I want people to do their own research and make their own decisions based on the personal risk they are willing to take. Because every person has their own unique way of determining their personal risk levels, and what they consider good or bad for them to do.

Mandates are evil and immoral. They strip human beings of their God given rights of freedom, self-determination, and individual choice. Not even God Himself forces people to believe in him against their will. But somehow a cold/flu coronavirus that over 99% of people can fight off with little to no major issues, requires a universal mandate.

Frankly it tells me the experimental “vaccines” don’t work for jack sh1t vor those injected with them.

Nut I am not stopping anyone from exercising their right to choose to take them.

The other side however, won’t respect my right to choose not to take it.
