The New Jersey governor’s race has emerged as an unexpected nail-biter, as roughly 15,000 votes separated the incumbent Gov. Phil Murphy (D) from his Republican challenger Jack Ciattarelli as of Wednesday afternoon.

Murphy went into Election Day with a solid advantage in polls, leading his Republican challenger by an average of 7.8 points, per RealClearPolitics. However, after the polls closed and the results flooded in Tuesday night, all eyes turned to the Garden State as Ciattarelli took the lead, outperforming expectations.

The GOP was too focused on Virginia they let New Jersey slip through their fingers.

Audit every mail in ballot before this race is certified. You know they cheated and Jack needs to fight like hell.

I would contend that flipping VA was far more important than NJ. Honestly, I don’t think anyone really thought NJ would be this close there. Governor and Senate races in NJ tend to be comfortably DEM.

All the Democrat governors in the past 40 years in NJ were voted out after one term. All the GOP governors who replaced them served 2 terms.

If Murphy wins, he'll be the first Democrat governor in 40 years to win a second term in NJ.

Wonder how many GOP voters refused to vote for Jack because they think he’s moderate.

Good strategy.

Jack hurt himself by only talking about taxes and his anti-Trump comments in 2016. I only decided to vote for him the last two weeks.

Things just flipped back in favor of Cittarelli

Found double counting of votes in Hudson county

Also found that some districts in Essex county were not counted because pulled plug on machines before totals could be downloaded

If the towns in question are places like Cedar Grove, Bloomfield, Caldwell, Verona then Cittarelli wins

Not to be too argumentative, but I think this is exactly the type of mindset that keeps dems in power, keeps Republican consultants wealthy while they keep advising losing races, keeps certain identity groups voting 90%+ dem. Folks like Ed Durr are prime examples of what can happen if we get rid of that mindset, and sometimes you have to risk losing to learn how to win.

Every district and every race deserves a credible candidate and credible competition.
