Democrats smarting from election losses in Virginia and New Jersey on Tuesday are feeling new pressure to act on President Biden’s domestic agenda in the face of political headwinds that appear all but certain to cost the party its already narrow majorities in Congress.
Factions negotiating over the massive reconciliation package traded blame for the drubbing even before the polls closed. By Wednesday, new fissures emerged as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) added four weeks of paid family leave to a bill even as Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), one of two moderates at the center of the negotiations, signaled he could not support such a provision.

Since a big part of what the Dems are doing involves institutionalizing voter fraud, it’s not as insane as it sounds. But every bit as evil as it sounds.
The avalanche has started, and once moving, it is IMPLACABLE.
All those social “gains” will be swept away like the mountain lodge in the path of that avalanche.
Make no compromises and take no prisoners.
Yep,McAwful just wasn’t socialist enough!
It’s a Democrat ploy. They will now have the ability to say, “if you vote for more democrats, you’ll get paid leave!” And other goodies.
Pelosi knows this bill now has a snowball’s chance of passing. This is nothing more than trying to salvage something to run on in ‘22.
I think Tucker Carlson can right fully claim this scalp - no one devoted more airtime to showing how evil McCauliffe is.
Have to believe more than a few dems in moderate or even red districts are fearing the loss of their jobs.
Good luck passing any damned thing LAME ASS DUCK dementia Joe.
Being the committed ideologues that they are, the Democrats will demand socialism and Gaia Worship now. They will learn nothing from yesterday. They will then be severely punished in the midterms.
Exactly right. Regardless of whether or not the people want it, THEY want it. They hope to force feed their programs to us and get us collectively addicted to them so we’ll feel we have no choice but to support their party. Also there will be an enhanced effort to ram through their voting “reform” measures to eliminate any chance of functional opposition arising.
Slow Joe, the titular head of the party, was never the fastest car on Amtrack but these days his main concern is what flavor of pudding for tonight. So, he's out of the equation.
Upchuck is genuinely worried his decades on the gravy train will end if he crosses the Squad/Sanders agenda. He's solely concerned about New York reelection. So, other Senators can go to hell, including Manchin.
Nanzy decided already to retire after 2022. So, she just wants to pass her insane liberal legacy to go down as a legend in liberal minds. Even if it costs every so-call "moderate" in her caucus their seat. Ranger Jason, who do you fear most, the voters or Nanzy? Prolly Nanzy.
So, for the Dims it's iceberg in sight full speed ahead!
“Go full Socialist before they get their asses handed to them in the midterms.
Shove BBB though like they did with Obamacare in 2010.”
They don’t care if they lose next year as long as they can get what they want before then.
They figure once their monstrosities full of free stuff are institutionalized into law, no politician will dare take them away.
“Pelosi doesn’t care if the Dems lose the House and she loses The Speakership if by getting this bill passed she can enrich herself by a couple hundred million dollars.”
Pelosi and her husband already have far more money than they can spend in their remaining lifetimes. Her net worth is estimated north of $120 million by several sources. It is therefore doubtful adding to her net worth is the primary motivator in her life. Anyone past normal retirement age, still swimming in the DC sewer, is motivated by power and the ego gratification that comes from seeing one’s name in print and face on the television as one of the biggest movers and shakers in the country. She is as big a media hound as was John McCain.
Years ago, her net worth was almost $1Bn.
The best moment from J6th: “Nancy……”
Cool. I’m sick of looking at Leonardo DiCaprio in memes
“Have to believe more than a few dems in moderate or even red districts are fearing the loss of their jobs.”
Not yet. The final Youngkin margin of victory will be 1% or less, far from a blowout. Youngkin took advantage of a unique situation (the school board power play and rape of a female student) and McAuliffe made fatal mistakes in responding. Even with McAullife shooting himself in the foot spectacularly, Youngkin barely won. We can’t assume every GOP candidate will benefit from the same circumstances at the local level. With 12 months to go, we don’t know what will be the state of the economy on election day 2022, much less how incumbents and challengers will run their campaigns. We don’t even know if Biden will be president, and if he isn’t who his replacement will be.
Timing of events also plays a factor. The school board issue arose at the perfect time for Youngkin to play it out through the final weeks of the campaign. If it had occurred six months earlier, it would have been old news and received no press.
Local elections (Congress, governor, school board, city council, sheriff) are usually determined by local issues and candidates. For example West Virginia is a GOP dominated state, yet Manchin continues to be reelected. Likewise, some thought Gavin Newsom would be certainly lose the recall vote and be replaced, yet Newsom easily overcame the recall in California. Portland burned all summer long in 2020, yet the mayor was reelected.
Every smart politician desiring to stay in Congress for decades knows his/her district and how to tilt when the wind blows. A few may get complacent and be knocked off occasionally (AOC over Joe Crowley) but there is a reason 95% or more of incumbents are consistently reelected.
Biden’s agenda was just repudiated. Do Dems up for re-election in 2022 really think the signal was to double down?
If by "acting" they mean ditching the agenda, then they woke up.
