Philly schools will pay community members to keep kids safe on their way to and from school amid gun violence crisis

The Philadelphia School District will spend close to a million dollars over the next three years to station members of the community in targeted communities in an effort to keep children safe on their way to and from schools.

Based on a Chicago program, Philadelphia’s plan will start at four high schools: Lincoln, Motivation, Sayre, and Roxborough, and expand to others. The “Safe Path” program will pay trusted community members and equip them with radios and bright, reflective vests to serve as eyes and ears — not to take physical action against anyone armed with a gun. Kevin Bethel, the district’s chief of school safety, said he wants Safe Path operational before the end of the school year.

Another great moment in progressivism. The city has to pay people to protect school children because no one will volunteer because the Soros DA won't prosecute thugs because black lives matter.

Paying “them” to protect “them” from “them”, which is paid for by “not them”.

Based on a Chicago program, Philadelphia’s plan will ...

Oh wow, it's based on the genius of Chicago's "community" policing program, so you know it will be a huge success in Philly!

There's a familiar pattern quickly developing across the U.S. ... corporate CEOs supposedly aren't doing what they're supposed to do, so bring in third-party "racial auditors" to determine how "systemically racist" all U.S. corporations are. Soros-financed, big-city DAs clearly refuse to do their jobs, so pay citizens in the community to "police" the extremely violent inner-city schools. The U.S. government supposedly isn't "doing enough" about so-called "systemic racism" throughout the evil U.S. So make the private sector install socialist policies throughout Corporate America (i.e., "diversity" programs, promotion of "critical race theory," corporate "donations" to the violent BLM, etc.). In other words, do everything completely bass-ackwards in the United States. Way to go, Democrats!

Is this one of those ‘pay gangs so they won’t shoot kids going to and from school’? Because ‘community members’ won’t be able to stop bullets any more than kids.

Besides it’s not ‘gun violence’ anymore than rape is ‘penis violence’... All this crap is criminal violence. The real problem is there’s too many criminals on the streets..

Hmmm this is so new and innovative I can't imagine where they came up with the idea!! I mean Curtis Sliwa and the Guardian Angels comes to mind immediately! But wait, he's a right wing nut. This can't possibly work ... right?

In May 1977, Sliwa created the "Magnificent 13", a group dedicated to combating violence and crime on the New York City Subway. At the time, the city was experiencing a crime wave. The Magnificent 13 grew and was renamed the Guardian Angels in 1979. The group's actions drew strong reactions, both positive and negative. Membership of the Guardian Angels showed 80 percent of them were either black or Hispanic in ethnic origin. Unarmed, the group required training in karate and fulfillment of legal requirements for citizens' arrest for all members before they were to be deployed. Sliwa's red beret is a component of the Guardian Angels' uniform.

"They are a better expression of morality than our city deserves."
