Nearly three-quarters of a million Virginians have voted ahead of the closely watched race between former Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D) and former Carlyle Group chief executive Glenn Youngkin (R), a contest that will provide a critical read on the political mood ahead of next year’s midterm elections.
Polling in the race is unanimous: Almost no matter the model a pollster uses to divine which voters will show up, McAuliffe and Youngkin are tied. It has been more than a month since any survey showed one candidate with an advantage outside the margin of error; the last six public surveys give McAuliffe an average advantage of 0.8 percentage points — effectively nothing.
Early voting isn’t much more help. Voters in Virginia do not register by party, making it impossible to know whether more Democrats or more Republicans are showing up to cast their ballots.

Fear the walking “brain dead.”
Don’t worry. The outcome is already determined. The headlines are already written.
The democrat wins.
The vote is just for show.
Elections in this country seem to have been “tight as a tick” at least since Bush-Gore in 2000.
1) If the country is truly so perfectly divided, why do the Democrats feel free to govern as near dictators when they win (”elections have consequences” — Barack Obama)?
2) If the Democrats are power-mad after close elections, why then are the Republicans so willing to compromise, power-share and reach across the aisle, when they get back into power? Is it ever really our turn?
3) Are all the elections “close” simply so that the manipulators behind the scenes can always just decide for themselves who the winner will be?
Golly gee. Without accurate polls how are Democrats to know how many votes will need to be created? It’s always better when they have an accurate number, that way they won’t have to shut down the counting during the night in order to have time to manufacture more votes. It’s just too awkward when they have to do that. Right? So, here’s hoping for good polling.
I would be more concerned with ‘Dominion’
If mail-in voting is allowed for any reason, the Dems will win hands down. And I believe the Dems made this the law as soon as they seized power several years ago.
You know it and I know it the cheating machine is on full throttle as we type.
If the Republican is up in the polls, regardless how much of a lead over the Democrat, the race is to be described as “tight”. It’s “narrative prep”, necessary as a predicate for future news stories explaining that the Democrat won the election, and how that happened. Via election fraud and voter fraud, naturally.
McAuliffe is a terrible candidate.
Biden is a terrible president.
Yet the race is still relatively close.
Youngkin will be very lucky indeed if he pulls it out in a deep blue state.
What I fail to comprehend is WHY it’s so damned close.
Have Americans become THAT STUPID?
APPARENTLY.
"Tight as a tick" elections are really statistically impossible as frequently as they seem to occur, meaning they are engineered as cover for election theft.
Even very recently, survey after survey has identified the country as leaning right of moderate on many issues. Don't tell me that the most radical Democratic Party ever is pulling people from this side. It's a fabricated lie.
Democrats press their advantages as much as they can. Republicans go squishy.
Please disclose your source for this supposed “Huge” turnout ? News sources I have read say turnout in NOVA has been light compared to previous elections. I anxiously await your response.
Sounds like a classic scenario of a close election where democrats counting the ballots will tip it over to McAuliffe.
this will go in a predictable manner.
fairfax county will be the last county to bring in all their votes.
they’ll wait till every other county in the state has given their final tally.
then fairfax will create the votes needed to win the election.
Those votes will come in a vote dump between 4 and 6 in the morning—the day after the election.
Thank GWB for turning ghis state blue.
“Almost no matter the model a pollster uses to divine which voters will show up, McAuliffe and Youngkin are tied.”
False. Fox News and the Republicans’ pollsters separately predict solid Youngkin victory. And Fox News has been very tilted against Republicans.
