3 of my coworkers (2 men, 1 woman) had kids and all took 6 months leave. VP of the company had 2 kids in 3 years, 6 months each time.

Seems to be the norm now? To me 6 months seems excessive. For a highly-paid, high-level government official it shouldn’t even be a possible consideration.

If you’re going to be out a week or two on vacation, you make sure things are in order before you go and there is a way to reach you in emergencies. If you going to be out six months, you arrange to have someone step in temporarily as your “acting xyz” replacement. Who is butt-boy’s replacement? Why is he or she doing their job?
