A Silicon Valley venture capitalist says that men who take six months of paternity leave are ‘losers’ and that ‘in the old days men had babies and worked harder to provide for their future’ which was ‘the correct masculine response.’
Joe Lonsdale weighed into the raging debate sparked by Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg’s decision to take paternity leave after he and his husband, Chasten, welcomed adopted twins into their family.
Buttigieg was criticized for taking paid time off while the country continues to suffer from the effects of a major logjam at ports that has exacerbated the supply chain crisis.
Lonsdale, a co-founder of global software giant Palantir Technologies and current managing partner of 8VC, was reacting on Wednesday to a segment on Joe Rogan’s podcast, which is streamed daily on Spotify.
Rogan agreed with Lonsdale’s view that men should not be entitled to paid time off to spend with their newborn children.

I took a week and a half off while my wife was recovering and to spend time and help out with that new little girl that come into our lives. But 6 months? LOL!
Butt babies are special!
[S]he obviously knows nothing about planes, trains, or trucks. Why does everyone want him back on the job? Does anyone actually think he’s going to fix something?
Nothing drives home the realization that putting food on the table is job one for a man like having children. We have four, and we pulled it off by my wife staying home and my going to work. Weird, huh?
He should have returned to work after his six week checkup.
I was out of work for two weeks because of covid and it drove me nuts
this Administration of
US seditionists and traitors
is FILLED with men pretending to be women,
and traitors and cowards pretending to be Patriots,
as it obeys its owner, the CCP.
6 months? How perverse.
Lonsdale better be wearing his Kevlar suit
Unless that was part of their plan to destroy the supply chain.
As he ( she ? ) should be. That is like the Sec of Defense taking 6 months off right after we are attacked.
I think the interesting part of the story is he was gone for a very long time and no one noticed.
Seems to be the norm now? To me 6 months seems excessive. For a highly-paid, high-level government official it shouldn’t even be a possible consideration.
Pete’s a queer...... that’s all.
He has no other qualification beyond being queer.
Maybe his episiotomy was slow to heal.
If you’re going to be out a week or two on vacation, you make sure things are in order before you go and there is a way to reach you in emergencies. If you going to be out six months, you arrange to have someone step in temporarily as your “acting xyz” replacement. Who is butt-boy’s replacement? Why is he or she doing their job?
I have no problem with a man taking a week or two after a child is born. A mother should take all the time she needs, and he should help her with that even (or especially) if she decides never to go back to work.
I have a serious problem with a guy who would take that length of time off.
We made sure our babies arrived on the weekend. ;-) My husband didn’t miss a day of work.
Ok, I exaggerate. He didn’t miss a day with the first two because they were born on the weekend.
Our third child was born late at night on a Wednesday. So he did take one vacation day on Thursday to take care of the other 2 while I was in the hospital overnight. I was home with the new baby Thursday night. My husband went to work on Friday.
My kids, and nieces, and nephews, all have luxuries with parental leave that were non-existent 30 + years ago. It wasn’t easy back then, but we managed. I did hire a trusted teenage neighbor to help me with my kids some days, because we had no family around.
He should be criticized, but truthfully, mayor Pete doesn’t know the first thing about our supply chain or transportation, so his being there doesn’t add anything of value. Biden should look into replacing him if he had any sense, but of course, he has NONE.
