A young Bradenton mother says she was in fear when she looked at her Ring App and saw armed men at her door.
Kada Staples says the men had their weapons pointed at her door and when she said hello, they ordered her to come out and said “we know he’s in there”.
The armed men were U.S. Marshals. Staples believes they were looking for a murder suspect, but they had the wrong apartment. At the time she opened her door and still didn’t understand what was going on.
Florida elementary school principal arrested after driving BMW at neighbor, flipping them off, deputies say “I cracked the door open and they pushed the door open and pushed me and my baby out of the way. They are holding us at gunpoint, screaming, there is a gun about a foot away from her face, ” said Staples as she held her three-month-old baby.
She said the U.S. Marshals kept saying,” We know Jamar is in there.”
“With that, they run in my apartment. There’s probably 6 or 7 of them out there with guns. 3 or 4 of them run into my apartment and are running around. They are still yelling at me that I’m lying,” said Staples.
She says she had been napping with her infant and was the only one inside when the Marshals soon realized their mistake.
“Then one of the guys in the hallway is like, wait, this is apartment and then said my apartment number and then kind of repeated it again and then they ran out and said, that’s the wrong apartment,” said Staples.
Don’t change your voicemail: Ignore that viral Facebook post and do this instead She says the Marshals left, but never even apologized for their actions or their mistake.
“No sorry, no nothing, they tell me, you’re good and another one said you’re fine,” said Staples.
She says when she called the U.S. Marshals Service to ask why officers had entered her apartment, she asked if they could provide a mental health counselor to help her deal with the anxiety brought on by the event.
She says a man on the phone told her to take melatonin and “get over it.”
8 On Your Side has called and emailed the U.S. Marshals service to find out why officers were at the wrong apartment and to find out if the officers involved will face any discipline. The U.S. Marshals Service and the U.S. Department of Justice have not responded.
I’m with you.
She should sue the arrogant, incompetent a**holes.
Of course, the settlement won’t come out of their salaries or pensions....but it should.
Keystone cops...Feds and the jack boot thugs
And counties need to check their voter rolls as sometimes there is considerable election fraud because of sloppy records which invite more fraud.
I guess the real guy knows now to get out of town.
Different ax. Learn to comprehend multiple unrelated problems.
Point being, neither should be that difficult in today’s world.
If you have men with guns at the door and are unsure for any reason as to what is going on, DO NOT OPEN THE DOOR! Call 911 and request a local uniformed officer / deputy to come to the residence and take control of the situation.
Shout through the closed door that you have called 911 for a uniformed officer and that you do not concent to any searches or seizures and demand that they wait for the uniformed officer. Demand that they provide a copy of their search warrant, arrest warrant or court order before opening the door. Be sure to say all of this while 911 in on the phone as it will be recoreded and becomes a legal transcript of the event.
CLOWN SHOW??? NO. ....STASI!!
Yep. Since I've been on Free Republic, I've noticed that a fair number of the people here are deluded fools. On this, and on any number of other subjects.
Aren’t most LEOs unionized Democrats? Especially within city limits.
Is the woman Black or White, because we all know its the deciding factor or weather this is an outrage or not.
You forgot the part where you shout through the closed door, “Are you guy sure you have the right address?”
Probably looking for Corn Pop.
The contractors we oversaw hated us, we forced them to do their jobs. During my 4 years overseeing home mortgages, two contractors resigned voluntarily...they weren’t making enough money. They took it to our chairman, Sheila Barr, who told them to pound sand. She had just been forwarded my inspection report at one of the servicers. The email from a Director in Dallas was titled, “Houston, we have a problem.”
I also worked a few years at the Defense Contract Audit Agency, DCAA. I have nothing positive to say about this agency.
This is what happens when a dyslexic Marshall reads the warrant address.
She’z about to visit Hawaii, sittin on the beach suckin a pina colada from a coconut with 5 star accomodations.
It wasn’t a mistake. It was practice. They try a few and see how the’re doing. Readying for arresting anti-vaxers.
Within 10 minutes, Sheila Bair told us to pack up, and ordered the contractor to fix that problem within 24 hours. FDIC was adamant about protecting sensitive and personal information.
Reminiscing about all of this, we lamented that had we not been as diligent at our jobs, we could have enjoyed many more trips to West Palm Beach and San Diego...lol.
Don’t open the door and make them verify the address. They could’ve easily said sorry on the way out, but requesting a counselor sounds snow-flakish.
