China Hints it Stuck Time Bombs on U.S. Satellites

HONG KONG — China has developed a space weapon that can creep into the tailpipes of enemy satellites, where it would grab on and hide, waiting for the right time to blow up. Here are the details:

The South China Morning Post reports that Chinese scientists say they’ve created a space weapon that attaches itself to the inside of an enemy satellite’s booster exhaust cone.

The scientists published their weapon research in the Chinese journal Electronic Technology & Software Engineering in September. They say that the weapon is designed to fit snugly in the exhaust cones of the gas boosters that move satellites around.

The device weighs only 3.5 kilograms and — once it has entered the exhaust cone — would use an electric motor to extend a thin probe that can pass through the narrowest part of the booster.

Once inside the booster chamber, the probe would expand to keep the device firmly attached and hidden inside the exhaust cone. The device can then wait for a long time before it detonates a special melt-cast explosive that burns slowly, simulating an engine malfunction and severely damaging the satellite.

The scientists say the probe’s attachment sequence can also be reversed to release the weapon from the target.

The South China Morning Post says the U.S. military has already voiced concerns about China’s Shijian-17, an experimental probe with a robotic arm that has conducted some unusual maneuvers since its launch in 2016.

For years I have thought a primary mission for the USAF XB-37 should be the mining of our enemies satellites. The next war will be fought and won in space.

The article comes from Chicom propaganda outlets.

The device weighs only 3.5 kilograms

That's 7.7 POUNDS. The extra added MASS would be noticed when an adjustment of the satellites' position is needed because the amount of thrust to move the satellite would be insufficient..................

I don’t know about mining.
But we should have developed the ability to blast them out of the sky, if we haven’t.
Plus we should have backups of critical satellites ready to launch.
And probably a ton of decoys.

You write, “The next war will be fought and won in space.” I posit that the next war will end civilization. Mutual assured destruction is still guaranteed, despite recent Chinese announcements boasting on everything from superweapons to supercomputers. The Chinese are testing American resolve. What we should worry about now is a Gavilo Princep moment:The sort of thing that could lead to a war in space — or more likely, in Taiwan.

Not only that. We would see it when they “think” they are “sneaking” up to attach it.

What a crock of...

China has also infiltrated just about everything. I am afraid that we will lose any war with China because they have been playing an extremely long game. They have direct control over any action we might take. And they know everything thing about us militarily.

The average Telecom Satellite has a mass of ~3,000 kg. GPS IIIA satellites are 3,880 kg. Adding 3.5 kg might be noticeable, but would not add enough mass to affect the thrusters ability to reposition the satellite.

This is not a complete certainty.

Isn’t it odd how a country, that cannot manufacture crystalline turbine blades for jet engines, supposedly has hypersonic weapons that can circle the globe and quantum computers?
