FLU season has arrived early, and seemingly more potently, with a flurry of anecdotal stories of the "worst cold ever" circulating on social media - and now sales figures for cold and flu remedies reflect the current situation.
With more than a year spent in a Covid bubble, compounded by less social mixing, viruses that cause cold and flu did not have the opportunity to spread as much.
Now, as human interaction is on par with pre Covid levels, the viruses are running rampant.
One sufferer, Jules Kelly, described her gruelling encounter with the "worst cold ever".
"It started with a sore throat and terrible sinus pain," she said. "Now, it feels like my head is made of sponge.

My wife and I just got over a bad cold. But it was just a normal bad cold and I would rate it a 7 out of 10 for severity relative to colds I’ve had in the past.
The FLU? Wasn’t that wiped out by COVID last year?
Sponge head? Where’s Squidward when you need him? LOL
Did you get tested?
That sounds like two criminals in a Dick Tracy comic strip.
Jelly Legs & Sponge Head just robbed another Bank!
No one likes a respiratory infection.
Could be a rhinovirus.
Could be influenza.
Could be a Coronavirus.
No one likes a respiratory infection. But they happen. Sometimes annoying, sometimes deadly serious.
It’s stupid to panic and blow up your world over a respiratory infection.

The one good thing I’ll say with the pandemic is that with all the masking and social distancing, people are not getting sick as often.
I haven’t had it; perhaps because the first thing I do when I come home is wash my hands. Can’t remember the last time I had a cold.
I can’t remember the last time I was sick.
I’m actually a little concerned my immune system is “out of practice”.
I eat healthy, workout, supplement, and get plenty of rest though.
Sounds like a great name for a blues musician.
Spongehead Jellylegs.

Fought off a virus a couple of weeks ago. Had some minor flu symptoms and broke a fever overnight. Was fine 24 hours later. Could have been a seasonal flu. Could have been COVID. No idea. It felt like my typical reaction to the flu when I get run down. I guess this is a positive with regards to my immune system.
The cold I just got over happened when we visited relatives in Chicago and their household was just coming off a cold. It’s the first time I’ve had a “bad” cold in years. I can’t even remember the last time I had the flu. And I’ve never had a flu shot.
When I first moved to Canada, against my will, I got pneumonia. At Christmas in Northern Quebec.
It was the worst week of my life. I could not breathe and had to sleep sitting upright. Very exhausting.
When we drove back home from my Mother-in-law’s house, we found a doctor and he prescribed ABs. Problem solved.
Good think the majority of the population have increased immunities from getting vaxxed.
Very happy to hear of your continued good health!
I’ve been wondering if our immune systems are stronger from not being sick or weaker from lack of illness.
Glad you feel better now.
I can just picture the drawings of those two in the ‘Rogues Gallery’.
