Road Trip: USCG Air Station Cape Cod, Massachusetts

MAuscgairstationcapecod2

Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod is a United States Coast Guard air station located on Joint Base Cape Cod formerly known as Otis Air National Guard Base in Sandwich, Massachusetts. It operates from New York City to the Canada–US border. It was founded in 1970 as a replacement to Coast Guard Air Station Salem.

The missions of CGAS Cape Cod include search and rescue (SAR), Maritime Law enforcement, International Ice Patrol, aids to navigation support (such as operating lighthouses), and marine environmental protection (such as responding to oil spills). Currently, CGAS Cape Cod maintains and operates the HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft, along with HH-60 Jayhawk helicopters.

U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod (ASCC), operates with MH-60T Jayhawk helicopters and HC-144A Ocean Sentry fixed-wing aircraft, and is the only Coast Guard Aviation facility in the northeast. As such, ASCC is responsible for the waters from New Jersey to the Canadian border. Centrally located at Joint Base Cape Cod, ASCC maintains the ability to launch a helicopter and/or fixed-wing aircraft within 30 minutes of a call, 365 days-a-year, 24 hours-a-day, and in nearly all weather conditions.

The waters of the United States and its territories are marked to assist navigation by the U.S. Aids to Navigation System. These aids may be anything from lighted structures, beacons, day markers, range lights, fog signals and landmarks to floating buoys. Aircraft from Air Station Cape Cod provide logistical support to Coast Guard ATON teams by carrying cargo, supplies and personnel to and from the thousands of sites maintained along the coast of New England.

The HC-144A "Ocean Sentry" is a Maritime Patrol Aircraft produced by the Spanish subsidiary of the European Aeronautic Defense and Space Co. (EADS). First unveiled in 2006, the CN-235A (official USCG designation HC-144A) is currently being produced and delivered to the Coast Guard.

The aircraft were certified as the all-around Coast Guard choice for its Medium Range Surveillance (MRS) Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA) by then Commandant Adm. Thomas Collins, in 2003. They are part of the Deepwater program, an extensive acquisition overhaul that touches the entire Coast Guard fleet of operational forces.

Good evening, radu...we had some sun mid-day.

Is your area staying dry so farmers can harvest? I know you must be suffering with all the flying stuff in the air.

60+ ducks this morning. And some old ones demanding attention...lots of quaking until someone comes out. It’s dark! With all the leaves off the trees I can look for a hawk and/or owl. Thank goodness I got duck food on Saturday.

Good evening, lightman...still fall?

We still have a couple patches of snow left, but temps are back up into the 40s.

Fall came late “thanks” one of the warmest Octobers on record. There haven’t even been half a dozen nights with lows in the 40’s.

The understory spice bushes kept green leaves a week to 10 days longer than normal.

Tonight we’re getting some much needed rain 3/4 inch so far, nice and gentle.

Set Apart
Read: Romans 1:1–6

Paul was . . . set apart for the gospel of God. Romans 1:1

The three-wheeled taxis of Sri Lanka, known as “tuk tuks,” are a convenient and delightful mode of transport for many. Lorraine, a resident of the capital of Colombo, also realized that they’re a mission field. Hopping onto a tuk tuk one day, she found the friendly driver more than happy to engage in conversation about religion. The next time, she told herself, she would talk to the driver about the good news.

The book of Romans starts with Paul declaring himself as “set apart for the gospel of God” (Romans 1:1). The Greek word for “gospel” is evangelion, which means “good news.” Paul was essentially saying that his main purpose was to tell God’s good news.

What is this good news? Romans 1:3 says that the gospel of God is “regarding his Son.” The good news is Jesus! It’s God who wants to tell the world that Jesus came to save us from sin and death, and He’s chosen us to be His mode of communication. What a humbling fact!

Sharing the good news is a privilege all believers in Jesus have been given. We’ve “received grace” to call others to this faith (vv. 5–6). God has set us apart to carry the exciting news of the gospel to those around us, whether on tuk tuks or wherever we are. May we, like Lorraine, look for opportunities in our daily life to tell others the good news that is Jesus.Asiri Fernando ( ゲスト寄稿者 )

What barriers do you experience in sharing your faith? What talents or interests can you use to present the good news?

Jesus, thank You for making me Your mouthpiece for Your good news. May Your Spirit give me the courage and love to share about You today.

Howdy, Kathy.

Your skies looked similar to ours .... some clouds, some sun. We don’t have bare trees and snow on our mountains like y’all do though. Our trees are finally starting to turn now.

We had a splash of rain this morning when a cold front came through. Dry tomorrow but will have rain Wed. through Fri., at least. It won’t be the best week for harvesting what’s left.

The duck numbers are growing, aren’t they? Better stock up on duck food! LOL At least it’ll be harder for the hawks and owls to pull off sneak attacks on them now that your trees are bare.
