Sticker Shock… Brace Yourself for $5 Gas and $100 Oil
americanconsequences.com ^ | October 21, 2021 | By Trish Regan

Gas prices have spiked to their highest level in seven years, according to an AAA report just released this week.

In some of the priciest gas stations in the U.S., a gallon is already costing $4.50 (or more)… up significantly from just a week ago.

And all indications point to prices rising even higher as we head into the winter heating season…

In fact, former White House economist Stephen Moore told me in this week’s podcast that he predicts “$5 oil at the pumps quite soon.”

You may remember that back in June, I wrote you could expect $75 to $100 oil before the end of the year, and, sure enough, we’re already there. The price of the key U.S. oil benchmark is around $82 a barrel as I write. And Brent crude oil – the international benchmark – is at multiyear highs as well… It’s around $84 per barrel today.

Oil has a direct correlation to gas prices, naturally, so Americans should be prepared for this inflation… at the gas pump and elsewhere.

Oil producers are clearly wary about the current regulatory environment, and they aren’t racing to replenish the low supply.

We can see evidence of this in the futures markets, too. The Wall Street Journal reported over the weekend that traders are betting the U.S. oil benchmark will surge above $100 a barrel this year, with some betting that the global benchmark, Brent crude, will reach a record high of $200 a barrel by December 2022. The article also warned of expected volatility…

Just paid 3.08 in AZ.☺

$3.17 in my part of OK. In light of how much worse prices are in other regions, I will be doing much less bitching from here on. (About gas, anyway ...)

Hey the government can just buy everything for us at inflated prices and give it to us. It won’t cost the taxpayer’s a penny.

“The purpose is to get gas high enough that the people would beg for EV’s”.

But most won’t be able to afford them.

My truck gets 17 MPG, wife’s car gets 34 MPG - I no longer mind driving her “girly” car.

A watt costs a watt, regardless of what's plugged in. That watt (or killowatts) is expensive and is indexed directly to the cost of gas, oil, and coal. The scarier part is that gasoline is a consumer chosen fungible commodity at the point of purchase, driving competition. You have to plug in the family chariots and those go into a monopolized utility grid.

Bend over Bubba cause it's coming good and hard.

My paid for used car habits fly home to roost. Rarely do I get to say......"Good job Dad". 2006 Toyota Corolla, 32MPG. Paid for and cheap to insure with full collision coverage.

I drive less than 4K miles a year.

Bitem, "I can't do anything in the short term."

Yes you can. Re-instate the Keystone Pipeline and drilling/fracking on fedgov land leases. Amazing we went from energy independence to this is less than a year.

The planned destruction of our Republic is well underway. Obambi and his ilk must be giggling that their "Fundamentally Change America" plan is accelerating.

I served 11 yrs Navy; others have served, fought, died, maimed for this state of our Republic? What a slap in the face! I can't despise these people any more than I do.

“Good thing I have a Home Equity Loan/Account.”

You’ll know gas prices are really high when you have to talk to a loan officer and get prequalified before a fill up. Lol

We bought a 30mpg used Ford Focus right after biden’s coronation because I knew it would be obama 3.0. At 15,000 miles per year and the truck getting 15mpg, the car will save us 1,000 gallons and will pay for itself in one year with a $3.00 a gallon increase in gas price. We paid $3,000 for the car.

It will save us money over the next three years of this admin even at the current gas price which has increased by $1.40 so far here.

Why is it that in 2008 when oil was at its highest price ever at about $147/barrel gas was just over $4/gallon, but now that oil is about $82/barrel gas is almost $5/gallon?

I’m a Doordash driver. I drive a Prius, so it’s not too painful...yet. I fill the tank once every 3 or 4 days. Has gone from a $15 fill up to $23 this morning. My non hybrid camry stays in the driveway.
