Yuma, AZ – A quick-thinking U.S. Marine Corps veteran singlehandedly thwarted a gas station holdup early Wednesday morning, security footage showed (video below).

The incident occurred inside the Chevron station located at 10747 E. North Frontage Road at approximately 4:30 a.m. on Oct. 20, the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) said in a press release.

Security footage released by the sheriff’s office showed a customer chatting with someone behind the service counter as two masked suspects barged into the business just feet behind him.

As the customer casually turned away from the counter and stepped towards the doors, he glanced over and spotted one of the suspects pointing a gun, the video showed.

Without so much as a pause, the customer immediately snapped his left hand out and grabbed the gunman’s firearm, then held onto the suspect and hit him in the side of the head with his bag of purchases still gripped in his right hand.

As he scuffled with the masked gunman, the second suspect scurried out the door to join up with a third masked suspect standing just outside the open doorway, the video showed.

“The other two suspects fled the area when they witnessed their fellow criminal stopped,” the YCSO said in the press release. “The customer was able to detain the suspect he disarmed until law enforcement arrived.”

When deputies spoke with the customer to ask him how he was able to take such swift control of the potentially deadly situation, he told them he is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.

“The Marine Corp taught me not to [mess] around,” he said, according to the YCSO.

Deputies determined the gunman was a juvenile and booked him into the Yuma County Juvenile Justice Center on aggravated assault and armed robbery charges.

The other two suspects remain at large.

No injuries were reported as a result of the attempted holdup.

The little twerp holds his gun with his right hand and his balls with his left. New kind of ghetto shooting style?

Good work. The reporter showed respect and a clear head by NOT putting the Marine’s name into the article.
Not all reporters would have done that.

He was so calm and cool, as if this day was no different than any other.

Good tactical awareness allowed him to disrupt both while attacking one.

You can watch this a dozen times. As he turns toward the door, he is already aware of the weapon, and as soon as the dimwit is within arm’s length...the Marine has already in his mind calculated the situation and goes into action.

NICE!!!!!

Wow, he had quick reflexes!

The perp is probably still wondering what hit him.

His buddy sure bailed on him fast enough.

More of heroes like that Marine and we’d have less crap from the hood.

I didn’t notice that at first but you can see him just apparently casually watching the guys while the perp is so focused on the clerk that he completely ignores the Marine except to go around him.

The lowlife with the gun didn't even look at the customer. The lowlife was focused on the clerk, as if the customer didn't exist.

The Marine saw in a glance where the gun was pointed and where the lowlife was looking.

To all the keywords cowards,

It may have been posted several times, but it’s the first time I saw it, because unlike you, I do not live on FR 24/7.

So thanks UMCRevMom for posting this again.

It was a pleasure to watch.

I like how the Marine dropped his keys right away. Also seemed like he dropped his bag of groceries quickly after the second hit.

I was walking out of the store the other day with my son.

Had a bag with a couple of can goods in it.

I told him it would make a fair impact weapon.

If they had done this a couple of times....they would have a strategy...only enter when zero customers are around. So I don’t think they’ve done it much. Probably just robbing for enough loot to pay for a drug binge.
