China wipes Celtics games from internet after Kanter calls Xi Jinping a ‘dictator’

China’s government stripped Boston Celtics games from the internet in the country on Thursday, after outspoken Celtics player Enes Kanter called Chinese President Xi Jinping a “brutal dictator” and criticized Beijing’s autocratic policies in Tibet.

There was no immediate comment from the NBA on the developments, which may mark a new friction point between Chinese authorities and the American sports league that draws billions of dollars of revenue from sales in China.

NBA players and officials have generally steered clear of publicly criticizing China since an incident two years ago in which Beijing briefly stripped NBA games from Chinese television and blocked the sale of Houston Rockets merchandise after the then-manager of that team, Daryl Morey, had spoken out in support of democracy in Hong Kong.

China’s latest backlash against Mr. Kanter, who plays center on the Celtics, was first reported Thursday by The New York Times. Other news outlets had initially reported on Mr. Kanter‘s social media posts before Beijing’s response to them.

Reuters cited a two-minute video that Mr. Kanter, who has a history of political statements, posted of himself on Twitter expressing support for Tibet and wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with the image of the Dalai Lama, the region’s exiled spiritual leader.

This is great. Will force other NBA CCP sympathizers to look at China in a new light.

Because of China’s absolute insistence on political purity, every single NBA player holds the NBA’s nuclear self-destruct button in their hands.

Don’t hold your breath waiting for LeFlop to support a fellow NBA brother...not going to happen... lol

It took several hours for ESPN to post a story.

He can say he was sort of misquoted.
“I meant he was an evil dictator but in a nice way.”

I cannot understand the in exile leader of Tibet the Dalai Lama. He says “I am a Communist” “I am a Marxist.” Said he believe their system is superior for feeding the poor of the world and running the government. Why?

In the brutal invasion of Tibet by China, official accounts show “some 87,000 Tibetans and 2,000 Chinese government troops were killed, and some 100,000 Tibetans fled as refugees to India, Nepal, and Bhutan during the conflict.”
The annexation of Tibet by the People’s Republic of China, called the “Peaceful Liberation of Tibet” by the Chinese government....

Even the kindly Joseph Campbell mythology series showed films of Chinese attacking villagers and described thousands of women and children were raped and beaten by the soldiers and women forcibly impregnated to make them have babies who would dilute the Tibetans and divide their loyalties.

By the way, the anti-Communist Tibetans in the US could be interviewed about what Taiwan is about to endure.

It would be a hoot if the Celtics got to the finals and Xi continued the ban.

He should start kneeling before games. Hold a sign “TLM”, Tibetan Lives Matter.

Facebook should give NBA players a pass on criticism, as they do the Chinese dictator.
