They say you shouldn’t read the New York Times because you won’t get any good news.
I disagree.
You just have to read between the lines, so to speak.
The GREAT news today is that at least 12 House Democrats will retire because they surmise that their party will lose the majority next year.
“The quickening pace of Democratic retirements in the House may be the clearest indication yet that the party’s hopes of maintaining its narrow majority are fading amid President Biden’s sagging approval ratings, ongoing legislative struggles and the prospect of redrawn congressional districts that will put some seats out of reach,” the Times reports.
Hallelujah!
“In recent days, Representatives John Yarmuth of Kentucky, David E. Price of North Carolina and Mike Doyle of Pennsylvania have announced they will not seek reelection,” the report says. “In all, a dozen House Democrats have said they will retire or seek other offices next year, including powerful lawmakers like Mr. Yarmuth, the chairman of the Budget Committee, and members from the most politically competitive districts, such as Representatives Ron Kind of Wisconsin and Ann Kirkpatrick of Arizona.”
As usual, the New York Times didn’t identify all the seats and, thus, put virtual targets on them. But that’s the nature of highly partisan paper. The following was a quote worth keeping in mind.
“In interviews, the three representatives who most recently announced their retirement said personal issues were paramount in their decisions – they have served 72 years in the House between them,” the report said. “But they also cited three political factors: redistricting ahead of the 2022 elections, Donald J. Trump’s continued power over Republicans, and the rising Balkanization of the Democratic Party, that they said had made governance increasingly difficult and frustrating.”
Even Democrats admit “Balkanization of the Democratic Party.”

The Republicans will probably help them bail it out and refloat it.
It is not election defeats that that are trying to avoid. It is howling mobs of starving, dying people, who have nothing left to lose, showing up at their offices - or their homes.
Let the replacement guys deal with that.
Throw the RINOs overboard to lighten the ship....................
Retiring Democrat Rep David Price of North Carolina is 81 years old. He would almost certainly have retired anyway due to age and health. His seat is heavily liberal and Democrat, he won reelection in 2020 with 67% of the vote. Likely he will be replaced by a much younger and much more radical leftist. Don’t count this one as a possible GOP pickup, especially if the GOP candidate identifies with Trump.
A lot of those retiring will be replace by even leftier loons.
most will prolly be replaced by RATS, but, at least they won’t have any seniority

LOL! That would be a good percentage of the GOP.
Also ... It's not unusual for Congressional incumbents from the majority party to retire before midterm elections. One of the reasons for this is that they know their own party mismanaged and botched their own agenda for the current session in Congress and is likely to get repudiated by the voters during the next election cycle. I suspect this is exactly what precipitated the mass retirement of GOP House members in 2018.
The NC seats are all being redrawn. Price’s seat will likely be a vote sink, but the GOP in NC is going for a 11-3 or a 10-3-1 map.
The Republicans will take over as the economy is crashing, and the Democrats, and media will blame them for it.
“the chairman of the Budget Committee”
That is a lucrative, plum assignment. He would not be giving that up, unless he was pretty sure that Dems will lose the House.
This kind of “Insider trading” is a great indicator - they have excellent information and are experts in the field.
Two thoughts.
One, the 22 election is still 13 months off. That’s a long time.
Two, if the gop wins, and installs moderates in leadership, we are no better off.
The Donkeys are finished in the House and they know it. The only things up for grabs now are the Senate and some governorships in several key states. It’s very important that MAGA Republicans win those.
Good, good, good! Don’t let the door hit ya...
