Viewed as one of the most moderate Republicans in the Texas Legislature, Huberty is an investment consultant known for his sharp, brightly colored suits. He has said he considered retiring after the 2017 session, when he authored a less ambitious school finance plan that failed to win consensus in Austin.
After the House passed Huberty’s 2019 education spending bill, then-speaker Dennis Bonnen said Huberty “has worked harder than I’ve ever seen a member, in my 22 years of service in the House, on an issue.”

Another "moderate" Republican gone.
I would like a picture of him in one of his brightly colored suits.

I suspect his
recent DWI played a significant part in his decision not to run.

“Moderate?” That’s all I need to know.
Good riddance.

You may not like moderates, but *anything* or *anyone* who can deflect/delay/frustrate the ambitions of the far left is welcome.
Limiting our side to only purists who try to reverse the entire Dem program in one term is laughably short-sighted and doomed to fail. We need to do this in steps.

“Another “moderate” Republican gone.”
Thank God. The Texas House is PATHETIC and has to be dragged kicking and screaming to support not just the base of the GOP, but most Texas voters (such as cross-dressers in bathrooms), but each one of these types that’s purged is an improvement.

Puh-lease. When the Houston chronicle says a republican is mostly moderate they mean he is a flaming liberal. Good riddance.

Nobody ever won anything through continual surrender.
The problem with people like you (RINOs) is that you continually take your cues for what is acceptable and prudent from your enemies.
You make infinitely more progress from your own screwups than you do from the successes of your enemies.

Nobody ever won anything through continual surrender. Who said anything about surrender?
The Dems built this situation up over the course of many decades. They compromised here and there, but they are succeeding.
I'm merely suggesting that we use the same winning strategy. Chip away at them here and there--like we are with abortion. Today, we have Texas virtually outlawing the practice. Tomorrow, we can get more states. Doing it all at one time at the federal level was doing nothing but making us lose.

A moderate may be the best we can do in places like Massachusetts — or even the more pinko areas of Texas — but this particular state House district in suburban Houston is solidly Republican (pending redistricting) and we can do WAY better than to keep electing some squish in this case.

Thank you PermaRag. Given that information, then I agree. I was assuming (and we all know what that does) that any Houston district was pretty liberal to begin with.

“Moderate” is just shorthand for a leftist who is afraid of the title.

This isn't about a "purist". It is about someone who mostly aids and abets those who are truly our enemies.
Nice try at papering over and hiding the difference though.
