A Virginia couple in their 40s who refused pleas from their family to get the COVID-19 vaccine because they read misinformation online passed away from the disease within two weeks of each other, leaving behind five children and an infant grandson.

High school sweethearts Kevin, 48, and Misty Mitchem, 46, regretted not taking the vaccine just before they died, according to their bereaved loved ones.

Misty Mitchem, a medical transcriptionist by trade, declined to get the shot even though she had diabetes.

'He called me up [from the hospital] and said, "Mom, I love you and I wish that I’d got the shot",' Kevin's mother, Terry Mitchem, told NBC Washington.

'Of course I told him, "It's past. You can't do anything about it".'

The couple is survived by their four young children: Riley, 17; Leah, 14; and twins Taylor and Aiden, 11.

Kevin Mitchem had one daughter, Angel, 22, from a previous relationship. Angel is the mother of Lincoln, who will turn two in November.

High school sweethearts Kevin, 48, and Misty Mitchem, 46, of Stafford Count, Virginia, regretted not taking the vaccine just before they died, according to their bereaved loved ones. Misty died on September 23. Kevin passed away on October 8.

Kevin Mitchem is survived by an adult child from a previous relationship and four young children from his marriage to Misty.

After their parents’ deaths, the four younger children went to live with an aunt and uncle in South Carolina, according to Kevin’s brother, Mike Mitchem of Spotsylvania County, Virginia.

'Both our families have been turned upside down,' Mike Mitchem told the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

These two graphics illustrate one of the reasons that reasonable people have serious misgivings, and I believe they are perfectly justified in this.

Like many people, when I am confronted with a hard sell push, I reflexively dig in my heels. If someone can make a case with a reasoned argument, I am willing to listen and consider.

When people resort to lying, deception, propaganda, and outright forcible coercion, normal, thinking people are more likely to resist, and for good reason.

"Just do it or we will take away your job/business/travel/association" is not going to convince people. They may coerce people, but it is not going to work in the long run.

Democrat doctors don’t need to be told as they will happily come up with ways to punish holdouts all by themselves. That said, they are most likely coordinating their actions online. Of course this is true of every Democrat doing any job at all.

TBut it was fatality rates that high, and higher, that drove the vaccine development.

I saw somewhere that SoAfrica was up around 43% initially. It was scary.

In-hospital treatment has become more fine-tuned, meds more targeted, as time passed and research papers cranked out. Vaccination has taken hold, (and, some may argue, the social distancing/handwashing/self-awareness etc. measures adopted contributed) and the death rate dropped from 7..6% in August 2020 to 1.8% and now hovering around 1.6% ontheaverage. It will likely drop further. But that’s not where we started. And as you said, with a 20% mortality people would be clammoring for a vaccine and indeed, they did. With elites elbowing seniors out of the way for it.

It’s a known that the virus is able to inflict damage from day one. So, while a person may survive, and not even be symptomatic, there is still the factor of short or long term disability. As in war, some of those who might have died in the 24% mortality group had they caught the disease earlier in the year, but were saved by medical advances, are still casualties - walking wounded. And that also has to be considered when judging the impact of the virus itself, rather than pointing to a mortality rate that has changed over time.

As much as I love dogs, they don’t have the rights of a US citizen. That isn’t really a valid comparison, IMO.

If a government can force people to do this for a pathogen like COVID-19 with its relatively low and focused mortality rate, that will tell us that, we as US citizens have rights equivalent to dogs.

Our masters can and are forcing us in the same way we would force a dog into a car and take it against its will to the veterinarian.

In this case, as it is for the dog, it is for a COVID vaccine instead of a rabies vaccine, and it is for “our own good” and the “greater good”.

We need to keep in mind that accepting this takes us down a road where, like that dog, we could be forced into that car against our will for a trip to be euthanized instead of vaccinated.

And history shows I am not being melodramatic here.

Exactly. People should be allowed to take the vaccine or Ivermectin (or any other number of things) for defensive purposes if they choose to do so. That should be their business, and their choice.

This is, in a microcosm, what tyrannical, statist, centrally planned governments and economies do, and why they don’t work, have never worked, and will never work. This analogy fits (fitting with my post at #80) in my opinion.

Centrally planned governments and economies put all their decisions into the hands of a very small group of people, and both experience and common sense tell us that a planner or politician 3000 miles away has only a minute fraction of the accumulated wisdom of millions of people who vote for economic decisions with dollar bills clutched in their hands.

For example, those millions of people living in California are going to make a far better choice about how much ice cream should be produced from a given quantity of raw milk (as opposed to the production of cheese or yogurt from that same raw milk) than a central planner in Washington DC could ever do.

As I indicated in my post at #80 above, millions of people making choices about taking a vaccine (or quarantining, closing a family business, deciding not to travel, or even simply going out in public) for a pathogen that has the potential to cause harm will allow them to make a valid and relevant risk versus benefit analysis.

In this type of analysis, they would weigh the potential side effects of a vaccine (and other societal and economic drawbacks of closing a business or restricting travel) against bodies being piled up in the streets waiting to be removed by the authorities.

And, as it is for those citizens who vote with their dollars for more ice cream than yoghurt or cheese from raw milk which is a resource that may be utilized for multiple purposes, these citizens as a whole can and should make the right choice for them, and that is going to be the right choice overall.

And it will be consistent with the principles of living in a Constitutional Republic with laws as we do.

What is happening now is wholly inconsistent with those principles of the United States under the guidelines of the US Constitution.

I don’t doubt that there were areas that were more or less affected than other areas.

Overall, my issue is that a mortality rate is defined as VICTIM DEATHS/VICTIMS INFECTED, and in the case of this pathogen, both the numerator (VICTIM DEATHS) and denominator (VICTIMS INFECTED) have demonstrably been highly variable for political, emotional, and propagandistic purposes.

This means variability in the DENOMINATOR (in WHO is infected and how that is determined with tests shown to be wildly unreliable) as is the case for Elon Musk who had four tests in one day (by the same personnel, with the same training, in the same location, with the same test) and two came out positive, and two came out negative. That is one single, yet well known example.

And there has also been contention over factors causing variability in the NUMERATOR regarding VICTIM DEATHS. There have been documented cases of people dying after auto accidents or gunshot wounds who were classified as COVID deaths because they tested positive for COVID-19.

All of this, how cases were classified, how the technology was used to classify them, and how the reporting of both infections and deaths was subject to human variability due to technology, emotion, and politics, this is an absolute travesty how this progressed.

Early on (for me, mid-February 2020 to mid-March 2020) I was wholly willing (MY CHOICE) to practice caution at the expense of my OWN personal freedom.

But it became evident to me at that time that the both the mechanics and efficiency of infection as well as death rates were understood, I was less willing as an informed citizen to continue with the destruction of the economy and our society at all levels from children’s education to mental health issues, not to mention the effects on the election.

There was never, EVER a valid Risk Vs. Benefit analysis performed. The entire thing was (and IS) being driven politically for political reasons.

I have heard many accomplished conservative intellectuals make that distinction, which I agree with.

What we see from the other side isn’t “Science”, it is “Scientism” which translates to religion and dogma.

Science can be treated with skepticism (which is an integral component of real science) but “Scientism” must be taken on faith or is presented with untruths to convince the skeptical.

It IS a religion. Sadly, it has turned not even into a religion of the Godless for many people, it has turned into a Religion of FEAR.

What devastation? The covid numbers were VASTLY over reported to support the lefts mail in voting fraud for the 2020 elections. Don't believe there was significant fraud to steal the election?.
