They were hanging out late last Tuesday when members had to scramble for cover.
Four people were injured when a gunman leaned out of a passing SUV and sprayed the area with what sounded like an automatic weapon — a theory confirmed by witness testimonies and the ShotSpotter.
The incident last Tuesday extended a string of shootings involving ordinary handguns and rifles that were modified into fully automatic weapons capable of firing up to 1,200 rounds per minute.
The conversion process involves illegal devices commonly referred to as "Glock switches" or "auto-sears," which are readily available to buy on the internet or can be made on 3-D printers. Police and crime prevention workers say that these converted guns are showing up at more and more crime scenes.
Quantrell Urman, founder of the street outreach group Turf Politics, said that not a night goes by that he doesn't hear automatic gunfire while making his rounds.
"They're out there a lot," he said. "They're everywhere."

What about taking the common hollow-point ammo, inserting a drop of deadly poison into the hollow, and sealing it in with a tiny drop of wax? Then every hit is a kill!
The story is accurate, I live in north Minneapolis. I hear full auto fire quite often.
1,200 rounds per minute is 20 rounds per second. Is that even possible in a conventional small arm such as a pistol or rifle, putting aside magazine capacity?
What if the SUV attached to the gun is a manual? Would that be preferable?

NOW, if you actually happen to possess a firearm that this part could be put in, by taking possession of the part you’re committing a felony, as you will be deemed to possess an unregistered machine gun.
My thought on these is that they’re mostly ATF honey-traps - sooner or later, you’ll get a visit.
I used to see full auto conversion parts and how to manuals at funshows all the time. Owning that stuff is fully legal.
It is only illegal to put the parts into the firearm and make a full auto weapon.
States may have enacted laws to outlaw auto sears to all but class III dealers and those that are registered, but I have not heard of this.
How can modifying a gun make the rounds more deadly?
Just wait until those 100,000’s of machine guns from Afghanistan start crossing in from Mexico.
