My devotional today should probably not be written after my blood pressure got jacked. But, perhaps the timeliness of writing is better than allowing a cooling off period before venting.
Peanut and I sat down to eat lunch. Yes, my dog and I eat lunch together. And, we usually watch something on television for a few minutes. Today, an episode of M*A*S*H was just finishing before Bonanza began.
You remember the show, don’t you? Starring Loren Greene, Michael Landon, Pernell Roberts, and Dan Bloker, the setting is in the 1860s. The Cartwrights of Virginia City, Nevada have a 1,000 square mile ranch. Typical scenarios for that time period are played out and the Cartwrights always come out on top, teaching lessons in chivalry, morality, and honesty.
It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that things aren’t the same in the world today as they were 160 years ago. But that doesn’t stop our insane politically correct cancel culture from rearing its ridiculous and ugly head.
Before this episode of Bonanza began, a bright blue screen appears with this message: This program contains outdated cultural depictions. Viewer discretion advised. We are being warned about Bonanza and the adverse effect it might have on our psyche?!?!? What’s next – Andy Griffith? Leave It To Beaver? Gomer Pyle? Little House on the Prairie?

YES. Of course. Shut up and obey, Comrade.
Loren Greene and Dan Bloker. Who can ever forget them?
But the Beverly Hillbillies is just fine...... I was offended when it was on..............
The Rifleman was even more into morality plays. I wonder if it has a warning as well.
The warning is not to protect snowflake sensitivity.
It is an in-your-face insult to anyone against the leftist agenda.
Buy DVDs of your favorite old shows before it’s too late and they are removed from viewing on tv
Two words explains the “need” for the warning:
1. Hop
2. Sing
MeTV doesn’t give me any warnings. Early episodes of MASH still have Spearchucker. I see the beginnings of anti-gun stuff on “Highway Patrol,” “The Rifleman” and probably others.
Yes.
We live in a world with Liberals. And those Liberals have to be watched very carefully. They have frogs to boil. Do not let them.
I’m waiting for them to go after “Matlock”. Georgia’s old flag appears in many court scenes.
That’s not Hop Sing.
Amos & Andy would make them have the vapors!!!!?!....... 😆
“We live in a world with Liberals.”
They’re not Liberals anymore.
The leftist, socialist, marxist, anarchist, communist subhuman filth.
The even more rampant racism in Bonanza is how they depict so many white people being unable to hit a barn with an 1890’s Winchester. /s
I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that the "outdated cultural depictions" are not so much referring to the morality of Cartwrights, but to characters like Hop Sing, with his exaggerated pidgin English, Indian characters (though they were most often played by Whites), and Mexican bandito types who spent their time sleeping against a cactus ("You toch my seester, I keel you!"). These stereotypes live on to this day and are painful to those on the receiving end of them. The only TV that managed to avoid this was "The High Chaparral" where characters of all backgrounds were portrayed respectfully, even if they were the villian in the story.
They don’t play the F-Troop themesong any more, just an instrumental version.........
