Some GOP officials are urging Republican voters to back Democrats in 2022 to save the party from 'pro-Trump extremists'

Two GOP officials urged voters to make sure "rational Republicans" don't lose the "GOP civil war."

The op-ed was written by Miles Taylor, a Trump-era Department of Homeland Security chief of staff, and Christine Todd Whitman, a former Republican Gov. of New Jersey.

They highlighted the need to elect a "strong contingent of moderate Democrats" in 2022.

Two GOP officials have urged Republican voters to vote Democrat in the 2022 midterm elections, suggesting that this might be a way for the GOP to "battle pro-Trump extremists."

Miles Taylor, a Trump-era Department of Homeland Security chief of staff, and Christine Todd Whitman, a former Republican Gov. of New Jersey, penned an op-ed in The New York Times on Monday. Taylor was the Trump administration official who, under the pen name "Anonymous", wrote a 2018 op-ed in The Times describing a "resistance" of Trump administration officials working to tamper the former president's "worst inclinations."

Together, Taylor and Whitman asked that the GOP's base consider supporting Democrats so that "conservative pragmatists" could retake control of the party.

"Rational Republicans are losing the party civil war. And the only near-term way to battle pro-Trump extremists is for all of us to team up on key races and overarching political goals with our longtime political opponents: the Democrats," Taylor and Whitman wrote.

"It's a strategy that has worked," they wrote. "Mr. Trump lost re-election in large part because Republicans nationwide defected, with seven percent who voted for him in 2016 flipping to support Joe Biden, a margin big enough to have made some difference in key swing states."

We continue to keep seeing so many former Trump officials who apparently were never in line with Trump’s conservative agenda.

Picking bad people was one of the Trump administration’s worst characteristics. His people took too many people at face value and did a horrible job vetting many of Trumps appointments.

Well, at least it’s now official. The GOP has now transformed into the Assistant Democrat party. They are now ACTIVELY campaigning for Democrats.

That is where your GOP dollar is going.

Refreshing.

Biden claimed to be a “moderate Democrat,” and that’s why he was handed the nomination, because it was known that enough true moderates (if neither party) would buy into that crap, as they had bought into the endless drumbeat of “Orange Man Bad!” Well, how’s that “moderate Democrat” thing working out for “conservatives“ like Christie Todd Whitless? How are Afghanistan, the border, spending, taxation and China doing under “moderate Dems?”

The problem with so-called Republican moderates like Whitless, Fatso Chris Christie, Romney, etc. - and their hangers-on in the media - is that they are much more concerned with their power and reputation than with any values, much less the people whom they claim to represent. That they have been doing this kind of double-dealing for decades is a tribute to the gullibility of the average Republican, but anyone worthy of that title has been jarred awake by their failures and Trump’s successes. We are done with their likes.

Go away Whitless. I’d prefer that you not go away mad, but just go away.

Their has always been a faction of Rockefeller Republicans who never accepted Ronald Reagan, and never accepted Donald Trump. The Lincoln Project clowns, Kasich, George Will, etc. They have proven time-and-time again that they will sabotage any Republican candidate who wins a primary against those anointed by the GOP-E. The Murkowski situation in Alaska is but one example. The gutless GOP “leadership” refuses to expel them from the party, which gives them cover to keep claiming they are “moderate Republicans”, to hide the fact they are Democrats. The latest example is Cheney, who McCarthy permits to savage fellow Republicans in the House.

Yep. Scorched earth policy. We must fight that pestilence of Leftists with no mercy. They must all be gone.

It is what they do. We should do it as well, for our own personal protection.

Trump was a neophyte in this respect. I don’t fault him as much (though I do fault those who gave him political advice) but now that EVERYONE has seen how this plays out-no mercy. Fire them all.

Ignorance is no longer an excuse for anyone.

The usual tripe from the NYT. Sort of makes you wonder what the real polls look like, doesn't it?

"Moderate" Republican - the word "moderate" has taken on the same function as "transgender" and "social" - it makes the following word mean the opposite of what it actually does.

How do you expel people from “the party”? Do it by “Bell, Book & Candle” ? There is NO enforcement mechanism other then the voters not voting for them and seeing that they don’t take office. The only thing that can be done is give them no party money, a very weak action. Anyone can call themselves a Republican and register to run as one. Klansman David Duke ran as a Republican ! The media if it fits their narrative of damaging conservatives & Republicans will treat whatever fool calls himself a Republican as a legitimate Republican.

Well your situation may be very different than Canada, l where party membership has nothing to do with voter registration and only affects your ability to vote on and participate in the inner workings of the party. I do know that Cheney could be expelled from the GOP House Caucus, and the RNC could refuse to appoint someone to an official position in the Republican Party.
