The US can't fight China for Taiwan, but it can help Taiwan make China think twice about starting a war
https://www.businessinsider.com/ ^ | 10/10/2021 | Lt. Col. Daniel L. Davis, ret, Defense Priorities

Taiwan has become a focal point for tensions between the US and China.

Many in the US have called for a commitment to defend the island against Chinese attack, but a war with China over Taiwan would likely be devastating.

The US can and should help Taiwan improve its ability to defend itself and better deter China.

Daniel L. Davis is a senior fellow for Defense Priorities and a former US Army lieutenant colonel.

On Thursday, the Wall Street Journal reported that US Special Forces and Marines had secretly been training Taiwanese troops on counter-invasion tactics.

On Friday, the semi-official mouthpiece of the Chinese Communist Party, the Global Times, warned the presence of US troops in Taiwan will accelerate "preparations for military actions" and that once "war breaks out in the Taiwan Straits, those US. Military personnel will be the first to be eliminated."

In combination with the recent increase in the number of Chinese warplanes flying into Taiwan's Air Defense Identification Zone, this latest development continues a trend of rising tensions between the United States and China over the flashpoint of Taiwan.

As I have previously written in these pages, there is virtually no scenario in which the US fights a war with China that we don't come out severely harmed; in a worst-case scenario, we stumble into a catastrophic nuclear conflict.

Who pays these people to write that we can’t fight China?

I’m betting it’s China.

Both Taiwan and Japan need to develop nuclear weapons.

The US could but it won’t.

It would have under President Trump.

Not under the cabal of evil that usurped this last election.

China will not attack if it is convinced that the people of Taiwan are willing to fight and sacrifice to preserve their freedom. If they are the attack may very well fail and China would suffer huge casualties. The political, economic and social discord would be very costly for the CPC. Xi, most of his cronies and many generals would be purged. Xi will continue to intimidate and hope that the political winds on Taiwan will come to favor some sort of “peaceful” reunion. Very much China will attack. Also America is in no position to fight in this conflict. In fact the rational extent of America’s Western defense is a line that includes Guam, America Samoa and Wake Island.

China, unlike the United States and Russia, does not maintain an active nuclear alert force of missiles ready to launch in minutes.

China intends to absorb an attack, evaluate the attack, and then launch a devastating nuclear counterblow that would probably include incinerating the attacker’s cities.

I agree a war would be devastating. The way to avoid that war is to be clear it will be more devastating to China.

I don’t think they’d like to see the USA, Australia and Japan sink their navy.

The chinese will send a sampan navy with 10million “internal migration” civilians armed with CNN uplinks, cameras, and bullhorns. When they get mowed down by our side, the resulting negative PR will be amplified by the chinese knocking out 2 of our aircraft carriers in the blockade with their hypersonic ICBM thermally guided antiship missiles.
America will luze stomach for the fight over what it already calls an internal province of China. Taiwan has never declared independence.
About a third of civilians in Taiwan are ethnic Chinese and maybe only half of them have loyalties and fifth column tendencies towards communist China. They have hundreds of thousands of cargo ships they can fill with civilians armed with cameras, CNN uplinks, and bullhorns.
The resultant slaughter will be live on CNN and the PR backlash will be enough to let China walk right back into their own internal (never did declare independence) province. If we blockade them, they’ll lob thermal-capable antiship ICBM missiles at our aircraft carriers and CNN will record them sinking to the bottom of the sea with the resultant nuclear plume.
America will luze stomach for the fight after luzing a couple $Trillion in carriers and tens of thousands of men in one afternoon, all seen on CNN, with our recourse being... to slaughter civilians. China has all the cards, they just have to lay them down on the table at this point.
And when it’s all over but the shouting, the RINOs and GOPes and democraps will be handwringing, hoping for a quick way to order chinese chips & electronics from Amazon. The chinese want the continued business of globalists so it’ll all be “can’t we just get along” and “water under the bridge” as soon as China is in charge and chips are shipping.

China doesn’t need a war to take Taiwan. They just just offer a choice of 2 futures. One that embraces masculinity, promotes its ethnic interests, and keeps sissy boys off tv, or whatever America has to offer.

China could probably simply send a small group in to sabotage one of Taiwan’s nuclear plants and make them seem the victim. Or they could do it remotely through a cyber attack.

Author is one of those “policy expert” grifters.

A Huff Post hack who said this about Trump.

“It is stunning to realize that the United States – once led by quality men of old like George Washington, James Maddison, Abraham Lincoln, or more recently by such as FDR, Eisenhower and Kennedy – will have as its 45th President a petulant man with few morals beyond making money...”

Wanna see Chinese propaganda? Follow...just for the grins of it, Yahoo news for a week.

There are so many stories like, “Could the U.S. defeat China in war” or stories about how great China is in this or that.

It is sickening. Yahoo news has to be partly owned by the CCP or receiving $$$ from the communist push down America in stories and elevate communist China.

Follow Yahoo news for a week..you’ll agree with what I’m saying.
