House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) on Sunday repeatedly avoided answering whether or not he believes the 2020 presidential election was "stolen," after Fox News' Chris Wallace pressed him on the matter.
Appearing on "Fox News Sunday," Scalise blasted the Biden administration's handling of the economy, the COVID-19 pandemic and the two major bills that have stalled in Congress.
After Scalise's numerous condemnations of the White House, Wallace specifically asked the GOP leader if he believed the 2020 election was stolen from former President Donald Trump and whether such claims undermines American democracy.
"Well Chris, I've been very clear from the beginning. If you look at a number of states, they didn't follow their state passed laws that govern the election for president. That is what the United States Constitution says. They don't say that the states determine what the rules are, they say the state legislature determined that," said Scalise.
When Wallace took that to mean that he believed the election was stolen, Scalise did not refute him, but repeated his remarks on state legislative rules and what the Constitution states, refusing to agree or disagree with claims of a stolen election.
Scalise also declined to say how he would vote if former Trump advisors resisted subpoenas from Congress to speak to the Jan. 6 Capitol select committee. Last week, it was reported that Trump had advised four former aides to resist subpoenas from the panel.
"These are legal issues and you've got a number of people that have been subpoenaed that are complying. They're trying to comply, but it's it's a legal process," Scalise said.
Wallace repeated his question to Scalise, to which the Louisiana representative said, "Well I don't speculate on a bill that's not before me."
You want the GOP to ever win again? Grow a spine and just say what everybody knows. OF COURSE it was stolen. Say it once and watch the public support you get.
Scalise has no excuse. He should well know what the left is and how they work.
"Chris, It is amazing how you can ignore all of the clear evidence of vote fraud in the 5 critical states. Just because YOU refuse to acknowledge the evidence doesn't mean it doesn't exist."
We know for a fact it was stolen in Pennsylvania, by Kathy Boockvar.
How much stolen is required to consider it stolen?
For the left, winning isn’t enough. They insist their adversaries agree with them. It’s Orwellian.
The Election was rigged.
He probably would have been considered a domestic terrorist and had all his calls monitored while building a dossier on him.
The Dems and press had no problem claiming the 2016 election was stolen.
These fools can’t wait to get on tv, and then can’t answer a simple question directly. They don’t have the guts to tell the truth on the most important issue of our time. Let me do it for them: The election was a fraud, it was stolen right in front of our faces. It’s not even in question, the fraud was so obvious and the obstruction to prevent any citizen from looking at is damning to say the least. And our “leaders” are afraid to even say it.
Steve Scalise was almost killed by rabid Leftists, I would be careful what I said in public too.
Even among non-political citizens that I know, they are convinced that the Election was STOLEN and that the Jan. 6, incident was stagged by the FBI and DOJ.
And that there was a 4 year long coup attempt that that ended on November 3-4, 2020 with an act-of-war (Pearl Harbor II) against our nation. (aided and abetted by most of the top officials at departments of agencies in DC)

OK! If you don’t want to call 2020 a “stolen election”, call it an “unconstitutional election”!!!!
Decertify the whole thing! Either have us vote again, or have the House meet and vote—one vote per State! PHOOEY!!!!
Finally Scalise is a leader
Just say:
“It was not a free and fair election due to the irregularities and issues in and among several well known states, and in enough of these states that it could have, and probably did, affect the outcome. All we can do now is strength the security of our elections so that it is easy to vote and hard to cheat.”
It’s a smart man who won’t allow himself to baited into giving an answer to a hostile reporter on camera when he knows it will be later twisted against him. Public figures have to be careful, unlike the rest of us who are pretty much free to shoot our mouths off at anytime. The time to address questions like this is at the opportune time when it counts, not to recklessly give fuel to your enemies.
“Scalise didn’t fall for the bait.”
LOL. Is that what we’re calling it now? Cowardice comes in all forms.
I thought Scalise’s answer was appropriate. His answer clearly stated the improprieties which occurred with only one conclusion able to be drawn from his words.
His was a political answer to a political question.
You are absolutely right but Republican politicians (except for Trump) never challenge their media interrogators.
Republicans are weak and lacking in convictions.
If he voted to certify the election, and then admits it was stolen, then he is an accessory to a felony. How did he vote?
That’s a well reasoned, rational response. Too bad he didn’t give it.
Because the Republicans need to start getting their messaging straight, as this issue is going to be even more front and center soon, with the Democrats already plotting their congressional committee putting forward a criminal referral to the DOJ for Trump’s supposed role in Jan 6 “insurrection.” It was full buzz on all the morning shows this morning after Trump’s comments last night.
What they did to him while he was President is probably nothing compared to what they are planning now that he is not.
