Anyone paying attention knows that America is fast polarizing to become two distinct factions. One is comprised of the coastal blue states commanded by dictators, for whom concepts like individual liberty are just speed bumps on the way to their newfangled visions of progress, and the other is largely made up of the red states in America’s heartland and Southeast, where leaders still generally fear the electoral consequences of putting their boots on their constituents’ throats.
The latter faction’s ultimate victory in the war of ideas is the only chance we have of maintaining anything that resembles the American ideal, but that chance seems to be vanishing quickly as the blue states are consolidating their current ascendency to bring blue state authoritarianism to the red states via international corporate power, social conformity campaigns, and federal tyranny in Washington, including executive edicts, unconstitutional legislation, and threats to subvert the judiciary.
It’s no wonder, you might say, that roughly two-out-of-three Republicans are open to the idea of secession, according to some polls. So, are we heading toward civil war, as many have openly asserted in recent years? And if so, what can we learn from the last one to inform us about the nature of today’s crisis? Looked at closely, there are important differences.
The media would have us believe that the blue states are the modern analogs of the free states in 1860, and the red states are the modern analogs of the secessionist slave states. And yet, this dynamic has existed almost entirely in the inverse for some time.
Let’s first consider the political dynamics in 1860. America was similarly divided into two general factions, then defined as “free” and “slave” states. Then, there was no mass exodus occurring from the free states to the slave states.

Is that sentence meant to be a joke?
I know the trend to leave blue states for red states exists. I only hope it is the right leaning people who are leaving.
This should not be looked at as red and blue states. But metro blue liberals vs rural red.
Possibly divide the blue states by county and shut off all services, and shipments including food and see how long they last.
I dislike that term “leaders”. No one “leads” me.
We shall see. Musk announced yesterday he’s moving corporate headquarters to Austin. Soon, he will have corp hq, space X, truck mfg, battery factory, in Austin area which is already a blue enclave due to UT presence. Will Texas eventually become purple? Probably.
Yes texas will become purple but California will rejoin Mexico which has been the point of the leftist policies since the beginning.
A lot of it is because they want jobs. The blue states are the ones that don’t have as many jobs as we did 30 years ago. It’s why I came to South Carolina. And right now I consider myself a refugee from the Northeast and really wish that I was born and raised here in the south.
Minor nit: in 1860 there was no exodus south but there was one west. We had a vast area for disaffected folks to move towards.
Not so anymore.
People move where they think their labors are appreciated and to be left alone.
I disagree that if there is a split it should be on a county wide basis. There should be a 2-5 year period where folks should move to their preferred color. Red states do not need cancers festering in their midst.
California will rejoin Mexico
—
Theoretically the state could rejoin Russia, as could AK
The problem is; conservatives want to be left alone and have no problem with leaving liberals alone. “However”, liberals will not leave conservatives alone. They want to control us and force us to submit to their socialist policies.
Oh yes...certainly agree. That is the crux of the problem.
Excellent point. I agree 100 plus percent!!
How can Musk not understand he is moving to a colony of California? Maybe he does and that is the point.
Every major US city is so far gone that we would have a full-blown Soviet style communism if their voters had their way. And probably something much worse. People that evil are a terminal cancer for any nation.
Freeways are the arteries they cannot secure. Without them, leftists live in concrete jungles without food.
Bingo...
It will be like the movie where New York City was turned into a prison.
Very true.
I certainly wish that were the case. Does not appear to, be the case in places like Boise, Idaho, unfortunately.
I am not talking about theoretically.
I am talking about the plans of LaRaza and the leftist leadership in the state and country.
