[history]
NEW YORK (AP) — When the remnants of Hurricane Ida dumped record-breaking rain on the East Coast this month, staircases leading into New York City’s subway tunnels turned into waterfalls.
In Philadelphia, a commuter line along the Schuylkill River was washed out for miles, and the nation’s busiest rail line, Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor running from Boston to Washington, was shut down for an entire day.

yes, because it’s never flooded in NY ever before.
And the .001 degC rise in temperature made that happen.

And it’s all focused on subways - climate change that is.

BS.
It’s a testament to the bad maintenance and bad Democratic government that shifted funds from infrastructure and wastewater management to political cronies and Marxist social programs that caused the flooding.
Citing “global warming” is just a cheap CYA excuse to both deflect blame and divert more funding to DNC boondoggles.

Either they were inadequately designed in the first place or they’re not competently maintaining what they have. These people are always looking for more money and “climate change” and racism are the current Woke ways to get it.

In the 60's, Bill Cosby had a joke about God telling Noah it was going to rain, Noah said make it rain for 40 days and 40 nights for the sewers to back up. Flooding is nothing new but kids are stupid.

I wonder what engineer would have ever suspected that water would enter the subway and ruin his/her engineering marvel?

Yeah, it's the first time it's rained in New York City. "Superstorm" Sandy never happened. The city departments had no idea that this storm was coming all the way across the country, especially with the heavy rain reports coming from Pittsburgh and nearby Philadelphia on its way to New York.
This is about the gross incompetence of those running a transit agency that sent trains with passengers into tunnels instead of stopping them and forcing everyone out. This is about a bankrupt city that didn't prepare by cleaning all the garbage out of the storm drains at the street level which led to the water pouring down into the subways.
Not one government employee will be disciplined, fired, charged, or tried for reckless endangerment and destruction of public property.
