Owning your own home in the community you live in is the American Dream.
The Biden Administration is waging war on the American dream by working to destroy suburbs across America. It’s happening in my community, and it will happen in yours too.
As the Mayor of Englewood Cliffs, NJ, I’ve personally fought to protect land that the state has demanded be converted into state-subsidized apartment buildings in the name of so-called “affordable housing.” I’ve fought this fight for over five years in a heavily Democratic town.
The truth is, these politicians who force affordable housing mandates on our communities, don’t actually care about providing affordable housing for our most vulnerable. They would rather build Soviet-style apartment blocks that pay developers than help low income individuals and families achieve home ownership.
Affordable housing mandates are a land grab, money grab, and vote grab by politicians and their friends.
Since the 0bama administration, the Left has claimed that suburbs are a form of “structural racism” and today’s White House says single-family home zoning contributes to racial segregation by not allowing the development of state-subsidized apartment buildings. resident Biden’s $2.3 trillion infrastructure plan even incentivizes state and local governments to remove critical zoning laws in a haphazard attempt to prove they’re not racist.
Of course, there’s no regard for the people who already live in these neighborhoods through hard work and savings. In my town, politicians were giddy to help line the pockets of greedy developers and their affordable housing plan was launched without the proper consideration of the people who live in our community. The home values of our residents will be re-allocated to a developer and its political sponsors just as has happened throughout New Jersey since the 1980s.
Everyone should be able to work hard, afford their own home, put down roots and invest in the community where they live. In fact, owning your own home in the community you live in is the American Dream.
Every American should have the opportunity to pursue this path, and that’s why renting should only be seen as a stepping stone on the path to homeownership.
Unfortunately, Democrats have given up on this American dream and they want to force young people, families, and lower income individuals into small apartment buildings, all while lining the pockets of their developer friends.
It’s funny. While the Democrats praise affordable housing, they don’t want it in their own lives.
Of course, you’d expect a convenient “ideologue” like resident Biden to live in an eco-friendly, sustainable, small apartment building, right?
resident Biden actually has multiple houses in some of the highest income zip codes in America. Why hasn’t he sold his home to live in solidarity with the people he claims to serve? It’s because resident Biden, and politicians like him, are only out to serve themselves at your expense. The same goes for our Governor and US Senators who self-righteously advance the elimination of single family zoning while living in opulence and behind gates as in the case of Governor Murphy who clearly wants New Jersey to be like California.
California Governor Gavin Newsom is a fellow comrade in the affordable housing movement. resident Biden recently campaigned to help him remain in office during a recall vote. Newsom won, and immediately after, he signed legislation to eliminate single-family home zoning in favor of more affordable housing in California. resident Biden and progressive governors are working hand-in-hand to fundamentally reshape America for the worst.
If you’re like me and still believe in the American dream--don’t let them fool you. We must protect America’s suburbs.
resident Biden and the Democrats are conspiring for a future where single family housing is abolished. Where the rich get richer, the poor stay poor, and the political elites stay in power. Don’t fall for it.
My community is circling the toilet bowl without help from Biden. I grew up here, when I was young, this was a solidly Republican/conservative city. Today, it’s hardcore Democrat/progressive and getting more loony each day.
This guy makes Jimmy Carter look like a genius and statesman. God help us!
Yep. Just attended a landlord meeting that included SJW orgs. Zoning is being attacked by those who wish to build “affordable housing” (TM) tenements in single family housing zoned areas. We were lectured by the various orgs on racism (roll eyes) as they bemoaned the (artificially created by the gov’t) “housing crisis.”
Ummm NY (downstate) super majority demonrats won’t be happy until rent is CANCELLED per our local representatives that attended this forum. ERAP was a complete scam, the eviction moratorium will no doubt continue past the 1/15/22 deadline here ad infinitum.
And they wonder why landlords are selling en masse and why there are no rentals anymore.
In our community we have the county commissioners all living in the county’s biggest town, which is a college town. We’re one of two blue counties in the state. The county and city commissions agree that we need more “affordable” housing and deplore the fact that real estate costs are going up. They’ve recently passed zoning which forbids development around the city limits unless it’s dense. I’m not sure of the whole thing but makes me glad we live in the country outside their evil plans.

There, fixed it
“Affordable housing mandates are a land grab, money grab, and vote grab by politicians and their friends.”
Vote grab I get. Land grab I assume means it’s owned by the fed. And the money grab is money to the developer from the fed? Therefore more money in their campaign chests?
The real goal is to get the highest number of taxpayers into the smallest area of land while using the fewest resources. This will leave plenty of land and resources for “the right people”.
Think vertical ghettoes of the 1960’s in cities, except for working people. This is fairly common in Europe.
This is the cornerstone of the left’s decarceration movement.
The Atlanta suburbs are turning into toilet bowls. Like many others we are fleeing to the mountains.
I’ve fought this fight for over five years in a heavily Democratic town.
Sorry Mayor...but they deserve it. They voted this in.
I live in California and zoning laws have been usurped by governor Newsom. It is now legal to build up to four homes on lots previously zoned for single family houses. I’ve never seen so many for sale signs in my neighborhood in 30 years.
There is some similar zoning not far from me - what the developers are doing is building TWO mansions that almost abut one another - and then selling each one for close to a million dollars. One small lot in this area has two new, small homes on it that were sold as a pair for $1 million - so I doubt any of this legislation is going to help “affordable housing.”
Don’t need rezoning to turn single-family houses into apartment buildings. Certain groups of people have no issue living 10-20 to a house.
Soviet era high rise housing!
Who is buying?
P.T. Barnum. There’s a sucker born every minute. Also the prices for multis are dropping like a rock
I went from the city, to the ‘burbs’, to the countryside - because I was disinterested in the fight needed to correct the problems in them.
Hello neighbor!
Hiya; Neighbor!
“I went from the city, to the ‘burbs’, to the countryside - because I was disinterested in the fight needed to correct the problems in them.”
Deep roots, grandkids and no mortgage keep me here. Now if the grandkids go too, I could cut the roots and deal with buying and selling. I’m absolutely disgusted with Democrats. I have family members in the same town who are Democrats. I barely ever see them, and I’m ok with that.
