Marine Corps officials at Camp Lejeune, N.C. ordered a court-martial for Lt. Col. Stuart Scheller, a 17-year veteran who released several videos and social media posts sharply criticizing senior U.S. government and military leaders over operations in Afghanistan.

He has been charged with six violations of the Uniform Code of Military Justice: contempt toward officials; disrespect toward superior commissioned officers; willfully disobeying a superior commissioned officer; dereliction in the performance of duties; failure to obey an order or regulation and conduct unbecoming an officer and a gentleman.

The charges were referred to a court-martial on Wednesday by Maj. Gen. Julian Alford, who heads Marine Training Command. Lt. Col. Scheller had been held in the Camp Lejeune brig for a week without charges. He was released a day before the court-martial was ordered after complaints from Congress over his treatment.

It also appears that members of the Joint Chiefs of Staff testified that they were critical of Biden in the manner with which the withdrawal was conducted; and did so in front of Congress. Do they really want to push for the LTC’s court martial.

*************

And some senior officers criticized/undermined Trump with no punishment. Lots of examples of hypocrisy and preferential treatment for the defense to cite.

He will never go hungry. He is this generation’s Ollie North.

No, but his family will suffer from this ordeal.

Bottom line: He was incredibly truthful an courageous. He is screwed. Pretty much guilty on these charges:

contempt toward officials;

disrespect toward superior commissioned officers;

willfully disobeying a superior commissioned officer;

conduct unbecoming an officer and a gentleman.(That is a subjective catch-all)

Consequences? Reduction in grade, forfeiture of all pay and allowances, other than honorable discharge.

Scheller strikes me as being more like Terry Lakin than Oliver North.

He spent his entire career and adult life executing his country’s strategy in the war against terrorism. It was effectively his life’s purpose. His chain of command from flag officers to POTUS just crumpled his life’s work and threw it in the trash. Everything he’s done, any men he’s lost, personal sacrifice, accomplishments, loyalty, love of country. All trashed. I know a lot of guys in his position or recently retired who are incredibly angry. Some are having difficulty with a large part of their personal identity being flushed down the toilet.

He did what he is accused of. He knew what he was doing and will pay a high price. I wish him well when this is over.

Is there a legal fund that we can contribute to for his defense so he can hire a good lawyer and not be stuck with a JAGoff like Ted Lieu or Lindsey Graham?

But at some point during the trial Lt Col Scheller has to utter these words:

Agree. The good Ltc. knew what he was getting into. He as much said so. And I hope they only, at most, cashier him out with loss of pay and allowances. No Brig time.

And I agree with you about not caring that he is adverse to Trumps help as that would certainly make him a political pawn.

I have been a bit surprised with his actions. He knew what would happen. I am only hoping his reasoning process hasn’t been degraded by his multiple combat deployments.

He and his family are in my thoughts and prayers.

In the end, he will be allowed to resign from the Army with an honorable discharge; general discharge in a worst case scenario.

A fate worse than death since he is a Marine officer. They already turned down his resignation. He'll be dismissed, he has already lost his pay, allowances and retirement.

What kind of “stellar career” did this guy have? He’s not 75 years old. He’s 40, and his military career began AFTER the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan in 2001.

This may not be a popular sentiment here on FR, but I found his criticism of the withdrawal from Afghanistan to be highly disingenuous. Our involvement in Afghanistan was a fiasco for most of this guy’s military career, but I never heard a peep out of him until after we had fled from that dump.

Ten bucks says that his civilian lawyer won't be allowed to mention Colonel Vinman. And twenty bucks says that his military lawyer won't even consider mentioning him.

This is a GCM. He’ll get about 3 years confinement and a dismissal from service, which for an officer will be the same as a dishonorable discharge.
