Cash option value, after IRS and California income taxes and Biden inflation, is about $72.

Does CA tax lottery winnings? If so, is it possible to quickly establish residency in another Powerball state before claiming winnings?

This is the Democrat plan for surviving the Newsom economy: “Sure, you live in misery now, but keep playing! Everybody can win!”

State holds back 24-30% for Fed taxes, which might actually be more.

Amazingly, California does not tax lottery winnings. The feds do, obviously. If this winner chooses to take the lump sum payment, they would take home $372M after taxes.

“The median income for a household in the city was $34,379, and the median income for a family was $43,508. Males had a median income of $31,073 versus $25,576 for females. The per capita income for the city was $21,687. About 8.1% of families and 13.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 16.9% of those under age 18 and 5.8% of those age 65 or over.

Morro Bay High School and Del Mar Elementary are the only schools in Morro Bay, California that offers education for grade level K-5th and 9th −12th .[38]”

I guess I was quite wrong.

I sometimes wonder if real people actually win the big jackpots. Maybe the government just takes the $700M for itself and announces that the winner is in ... he’s in ... ummmmm ... he’s in Morro Bay, CA. Yeah. We’ll go with that.

I knew of one of the first people to win the Florida lotto when it started. The guy and his wife went on some spending spree - even buying a house way over market value because of the location. Two years later, they were divorced and in all kinds of financial trouble.

I can only imagine what I would do it I won anything these days. I made a pact with myself and the Lord I would split up the winnings with family, give x amount to the church, things like that. The only problem is, I don't play enough.

I've been at the grocery store on Fridays, and seen people cashing their paychecks, then buying hundreds of dollars worth of tickets. They dont look like they can actually afford to play with that much money either. The few times I've played, I've never bought more than $20 worth.

I don’t know, but I suspect that the 1984 constitutional amendment that authorized lotteries, prop 37, bars state taxation. Else the legislature surely would tax the winnings

Didn’t Epstein (who didn’t kill himself) win a big lotto under questionable circumstances?
