Facebook is down, and not in a minor way. The Big Tech mammoth is down worldwide in a way in which they will not be able to easily recover as the DNS A and AAA records have been deleted. Technically speaking, facebook.com is now for sale.
They’re not alone. Instagram, WhatsApp, and others have also been affected in the same way. It’s clearly a coordinated attack on a massive scale, though it’s unclear how it was pulled off. We’re not talking about a simple DDoS attack. This is catastrophic and would have required high-level access to certain protocols that one cannot get from the outside.

Facebook being down this long, coupled with China buzzing Taiwan a lot lately, spells big trouble. China may be the one who pulled Facebook down. Impossible, Biden gave them a "list" not to mess with regarding cyber attacks and just recently told them to stop harassing Taiwan.

Very true. But we in IT have been using "catastrophic failure" for years. Like if your hard drive starts clicking and beeping and no longer boots, we call it a "catastrophic failure". I don't think the term as used here was meant to put it in league with the ACTUAL catastrophic events you mention.

Right. It’s happened before, and will happen again. Servers, networks, software, etc. fail and have to be reset / put back online.
Just nonsense as is typical of the author of this article. Notice he lists off Facebook’s other websites as though they aren’t part of Facebook as also being down as evidence of something bigger. It is unfortunate so many people continue to read and buy into what he writes.
