Former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI), a United States Army Reserve officer, on Sunday weighed in on the U.S. withdrawal out of Afghanistan.
According to Gabbard, the mission in Afghanistan in response to the 9/11 attacks was effective in defeating al-Qaeda. She added that what went wrong was the nation’s leaders “lost sight” of the mission there.

GABBARD is being rebranded as the “NEW DEMOCRAT”. Nothing has changed with her extremist anti-family values and Socialist agenda.
She is still a Democrat, so you aren’t going to vote for her. But she isn’t owned by the machine, nor does she seem to be looking for their blessing. There aren’t many like her on either side.

Spot on. Our mission there was deterrence - visiting someone at home an breaking his legs for what he did back here in our country. That was it. That was all. We proved that even we don't have the strategic reach to fix some spot in the middle of a dry mountainous land on the other side of the world.
What’s in her future? She can peddle her looks in the media. Better than running for office. Governorship in Hawaii is open but the senate is a bridge too far. Hirono is up in ‘24. POTUS? Forget it. UN ambassador under a Republican POTUS? Perhaps. She needs attention.
There are only 5 military missions. Attack / Defend/ Withdraw / Delay / and Reinforce/ Any thing else is political and should be accomplished by politicians.

Exactly! I can attest to the former as having many friends retire from the military and go straight into contracting jobs in Afg, making 150-250K a year. Companies like Dyncorp have reason to be angry(/s) after years of multi-million dollar contracts and then oddly losing out to a smaller company who bid lower but manages to increase costs and still make multi-millions.

True enough. But what President Bush committed the country to (without any debate) was an open-ended mission that was absurdly defined as a “War on Terror”. Proving that nobody was doing their homework.
