Breaking: Manchin says his spending limit is $1.5 trillion

Centrist Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) announced on Thursday that his top-line spending number for the budget reconciliation package is $1.5 trillion, far below the $3.5 trillion spending goal set by the budget resolution that he and every other Senate Democrat voted for last month.

Manchin confirmed that he signed a memorandum of understanding with Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) at the end of July setting $1.5 trillion as his spending limit for President Biden’s Build Back Better agenda and explained he did so as a precondition for voting for the Senate budget resolution in August.

It’s like $1.5 trillion is chump change.

Yeah, that’s his top line, that’s the ticket... UNLESS he should somehow find more funds in his campaign war chest, a few new projects for WV inserted in the bill, and some plum jobs for friends and relatives... that would relax that top line number.

That’s probably close to what Pelosi planned on. This is simply an increase in social gimmees....free college?? oh goody...more courses in non-job producing degrees.

A random number by the economist. Completely arbitrary. My spending limit is actually 1.7 trillion

Not sure how some still haven't caught onto Manchin's act yet. It's the same play, from the same playbook that he's used for years. In the end he will support the RATS, shaving off 10% for his trouble.

PS: Brian Kilmeade has a man crush on this turd.

That’s funny. $1.5 T is probably what they had in mind in the first place, before they raised it to $3.5T in order to ask for the moon, and then “settle” for what they wanted in the first place.

But, as I’ve been thinking all along - might as well be $1.5Q.

The whole thing, FED/IRS/debt, ALL OF IT, is coming down.

It’s just got to.

NCSWIC. Nothing.

His real price is whatever will convince him to raise this outward price—and/or maximize his willingness to go with more funding for whatever lobbyists.

This is negotiation 101. Propose an extreme number, and then come down to the number you want appearing to be moderate and bipartisan.

That’s 1,500 billion dollars. For what exactly?

Our republic is doomed.

whether it eventually becomes $1.5T, $3.5T or somewhere in between ... we are still screwed.

According to Nancy Pelosi, “Build Back Better” is Obama’s agenda. She said it loud and clear.

Well, if Pelosi is shooting for 1.2 trillion, add another .3 trillion and there is the 1.5 trillion.

This always happens. The reductionist debate over massive bills. Same with Obamacare, stimulus, etc. etc.

$3.5 Trillion!
No! $1 Trillion
$1.5 Trllion?
Settled!

No one even bothers to read whats in it regardless.
