The NBA is not playing around when it comes to getting players vaccinated.
The NBA announced on Wednesday that it will withhold payment from unvaccinated players who miss games due to local vaccine mandates. While the NBA has not mandated the vaccine itself, cities that require the vaccine to enter public spaces will not allow unvaccinated players inside the basketball court.
“Any player who elects not to comply with local vaccination mandates will not be paid for games that he misses,” Mike Bass, the NBA’s executive vice president of communications, told media outlets in a statement on Wednesday.
Under the NBA's new rule, unvaccinated players who play for a team from a city that has a vaccine mandate would be forced to miss all home games. These teams include the Brooklyn Nets, the Chicago Bulls, and the Golden State Warriors.
The NBA reports that about 90% of its players are vaccinated against COVID-19 , according to Yahoo Sports. However, some players have not clarified whether they have received the vaccine, with both the Brooklyn Nets' Kyrie Irving and the Golden State Warriors' Andrew Wiggins saying they wish to keep their vaccination status private.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that the U.S. had over 770,000 cases of the coronavirus in the last seven days. The site also reports that 64.4% of U.S. residents have received their first shot of the vaccine , with 55.8% fully vaccinated.
The NBA did not immediately respond to the Washington Examiner's request for comment.
Use their celebrity for something.
NYC Chicago San Francisco
Sounds like those people are racists.
Call BLM 🤪
If you are a top-tier player, ask for a trade to a team with no local mandate.
Exactly.
Looks like Biden found a way to kill off the NBA for us.
Thanks Joseph Stolen.
For what it is worth, I quit MLB during that absurd 1994 strike, with no World Series. Of course I stopped the NFL once they (management) declined to properly contend with the insult of our flag. That was what 4, or maybe 5 years ago? I do not miss it at all.
I never was a fan of Hockey or Tennis. In any case, I simply do not have any interest in professional sports. Oh, and those Olympics....fuhhget about it.....Nevahh as we say here in Boston.
When I was young, I’d play any sport, but baseball was my
favorite. We lived on a 120 acre farm in Southwest Missouri
and my grandfather and I would listen to Harry Carey and
Jack Buck do the play by play of the St. Louis Cardinals. I
was five.
I would have a ball in my hand every chance I got, and would
make up games because there were no other kids around.
When I was older we moved to town. I had kids to play with
and we played sand lot a lot.
I played pony league a bit, and stunk at it. I needed some
better coaching I never got. And then as an adult, I started
playing on fast pitch softball teams. I played that for
about 18 years, and then wound up playing on an over 30
baseball team for two years.
My last year I was hitting around 550 halfway through the
season. I started playing less for health reasons and
didn’t get at bats enough to continue a reasoned score
sheet to keep track.
The thing is, they had to go a long way toward killing off
my appreciation of baseball.
I’m out. I couldn’t even tell you a single player’s name
on the dodgers, or the coaches name, or even the current
owner’s name.
The moment BLM got involved, it was the bitter end for me.
Not going back either.
Other suckers will fill my place.
Remember NBA, this is what happens when you leave the plantation. You’ll be hunted down and returned.
Just as Candice Owens, Larry Elder, etc what it’s like to be a free black.
...and those cities and states will miss out on the income taxes from said withheld salaries...
And why on earth is it any of the league’s beeswax? If their employer wants to pay them, what’s it to the league?
Interesting observation there.
I think kids who are kept busy in good pastimes during
teen years, always turn out better. They stay on track
and you can count on them to stay out of trouble for the
most part.
Parental involvement is key.
Glad you boy is playing well. It’s a great sport.
have to see if the contracts allow them to do this
id be having my lawyer look through the contracts
You know they also have to pay state taxes in every state they are paid to play. I say they should renegotiate their contracts so that they are paid only $1 for away games, and double for home games. Do the same with vaccine mandates. No pay for games in covid crazy states, and proportionally more for games they do play. Time to push back against the system every way possible.
If the whole league goes covid crazy, pay them as independent consultants for the team, and let them play for free.
Why should the players be punished, they signed their contract BEFORE the cities implemented their policy. The folly of it all. So the Golden State Warriors are subject to this mandate in San Francisco but if they went back across the bridge to Oakland, where they used to play, the mandate doesn’t apply. Players shouldn’t be punished because of idiotic decisions made by politicians. I would demand to be traded and sue the NBA for withholding pay.
When did the NBA start paying players?
How do the unvaxxed get to the away games - walk?
If I was an unvaccinated NBA player on one of these teams I would take the financial hit by missing the first home games, suit up for the first road game of the season, and then go down with a mysterious “season ending injury” that forces the team to pay my full salary for the remainder of the season.
If that was not specified in the players contract when both parties agreed and signed they’ll be lawyers flying in from everywhere to get a piece of that easy and quick kill income.
