Claims of anti-vax nurses fueling hospital staff shortages ignore the limited support and lack of mental healthcare for COVID's frontline workers

Hospitals have told reporters unvaccinated workers are contributing to the nurse staffing shortage.

But research has found poor work environments and PTSD contribute to whether a nurse will quit.

Traumatized nurses can also make decisions against their self interest, like refusing a vaccine.

arah Chan, a registered nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital in New York, did not expect the pandemic to plague hospitals for the last nineteen months.

Chan said she believed the rollout of the vaccine would decrease the number of COVID-19 patients she had. But as cases involving the delta variant of COVID, which is more easily spread, rise and fewer people get shots, hospitals are once again crowded.

Some health systems have blamed unvaccinated healthcare workers for staffing shortages, but the problem with unvaccinated healthcare workers may be overstated: the American Nurses Association found 9 in 10 nurses have received a COVID-19 vaccine or are planning to.

Instead of leaving in protest of vaccine mandates, many of Chan's peers left their jobs caring for patients due to exhaustion, she said. The exodus of nurses has created staffing shortages at her hospital, which means she is working overtime to care for sick patients.

Poor work environments and burnout are putting pressure on already strained nurses - and without better resources, trauma and fatigue will cause a nurse staffing crisis, experts told Insider.

"The stress of working in a COVID ICU, and all the death that I've had to see, altogether, it has really set me back; I'm often very anxious, and angry," Chan told Insider. "So much death weighs heavy on me."

So vaccine hesitancy is now a sign of mental illness. Good, Courts long ago decided the mentally ill cannot be forced by the government to take medication.

Have been saying this for a year now. Health care workers had high expectations the vaccines would reduce the unbearable workload. Hope dwindled this summer with the next wave of Covid cases. A very unfortunate situation, not easily solved simply with a bigger paycheck.

Declaring them unfit to make their own vax decision. Probably qualifies them for red flag laws too.

What will happen if the US ever gets a serious outbreak of some disease?

They should read the British tabs.

Those are a great preview of coming attractions for the delights that await us all with socialized medicine.

Excellent point and the legal decision led to Deinstitutionalization which led to increased homelessness.

There is no logical argument for forcing those who have recovered from Covid to take the vax.

The most egregious disinformation is pushing this vaccination on those with natural immunity that have recovered from Covid.
Those with natural immunity are not spreading the virus, not shedding spike protein, and have demonstrably better immunity that those with the mRNA injection.
When government authorities and their experts push the injections on this group, we know that they want to inject people for ulterior or nefarious purposes. There is no benefit for the individual or society for those with natural immunity to be injected or penalized for not accepting injections.

I have two cousins, both PAs in large hospitals, very experienced AND fully vaxed. One is quitting due to “the COVID stuff” ie tired, worn out, poor working conditions. She’s going home to spend time with her two small kids & hubby. At some point, she may go back to work part-time, but it won’t be at a large hospital. The other one is leaving a large hospital & going to a much smaller facility where her skills will be better utilized & more appreciated. Both are good people and care greatly about the patients they are serving.

An anti-vax situation has nothing to do with either of these people. It’s all working conditions, stress, big corporations, insurance/employment models, etc.

So it is not the requirement to get a jab; it is the lack of coffee, snacks and a massage chair that are leading these highly trained professionals to quit their jobs? This is how stupid the MSM thinks we are.

Maybe it's the lying, changing numbers, using tests that can't tell if a person has Covid, the flu, or a common cold, to FORCE injections of experimental substance, and nurses then witnessing some of the severe side effects in their patients (and being threatened if they say anything), and then after having worked with Covid patients for almost 2 years, they (nurses, medical) are now being forced to be injected with the same substance, or lose their jobs?

Maybe that's why they are upset?

They don't want to play freakin jab Russian Roulette.

This "vaccine" has killed or maimed more people than all the other vaccines combined...in history.

In the past vaccines were stopped for killing as few as 3 people.

What is going on?

Actually, it proves how stupid the fake news media is, to push such a stupid idea.

Fact: Hospitals were already 10-20% understaffed in nursing and aides.

Fact: 30-40% were not getting the jab before the mandates hit.

Estimate, varies by region: 5-10% will end up quitting.

Staffing will then get worse, to 15-30% understaffed. “Agency” stranger nurses are coming in to help, but earning 2-3x.

So that means 20-35% will take the jab begrudgingly or have to beg for a revocable exemption, after being told they were “heroes” and buttered up and down for 18 mos.

That is, 20-35% of nurses are now even more pissed. No hope for pay increases, unless you go to a strange place, farther away; understaffing is doubly worse; the administrators think you can’t decide your own medical choices; you see the vaccinated being treated in the hospital more and more; Covid protocols fail over and over; And flu season approaches. LIFE SUCKS.
