'Dozens' of Massachusetts State Troopers Resign Over State's Vaccine Mandate

Dozens of Massachusetts Highway Patrol troopers tendered their resignation in the face of a looming Wuhan coronavirus vaccine mandate that takes effect in early October as state and city leaders around the country face staffing shortages in critical fields as a result of mandates that do not allow a testing or masking protocol exception for those who choose not to get a vaccine.

Throughout COVID, we have been on the front lines protecting the citizens of Massachusetts and beyond. Simply put, all we are asking for are the same basic accommodations that countless other departments have provided to their first responders, and to treat a COVID related illness as a line of duty injury.

To date, dozens of troopers have already submitted their resignation paperwork, some of whom plan to return to other departments offering reasonable alternatives such as mask wearing and regular testing. The State Police are already critically short staffed and acknowledged this by the unprecedented moves which took troopers from specialty units that investigate homicides, terrorism, computer crimes, arsons, gangs, narcotics, and human trafficking, and returned them to uniformed patrol.

This is a work around for defunding the police without actually defunding the police.

They should all walk of the job and just let chaos reign.

The typical Massachusetts State Trooper makes $150K-$200K a year (with OT). IIRC their pensions are calculated on their *gross* income...not their base salary.IOW these troopers will probably wind up with $100K/yr pensions...and they're free of state tax.

Can never forget that Massachusetts is the state that repeatedly reelected Ted Kennedy. On one hand those troopers are government workers in that state but it of course would be wrong to generalize. Nevertheless would be reluctant to hire these guys as cops if they move to Texas, Oklahoma or Florida.

Trained mindfulness counseling replacement state social workers are on the way.
Taking low carbon footprint public bus with one transfer delay so it may be a while if you call them.

Try to plan your emergency in advance. Just a tip.

We are less safe, that's what government is doing to the population. No wonder private sales of guns is way up.

Mass has already had to bring in National Guard troops to drive the school buses due to self-inflicted staffing shortages by their draconian vaccine mandates.

I would bet a good percentage of the resignations are by Detectives and other undercover who are not happy about going back on patrol. They did the extra work to get a gold badge or assigned to clandestine duties. Any cops here that can verify my supposition?

Guess I was in the wrong profession... Do you have any links to back this up?

It actually varies somewhat but many of them do make serious money. I think Illinois is another state where the state police make several times more than your average police officer or trooper in most other states.

The immediate staff shortages are just the tip of the iceberg.

Other cops eligible for retirement will bail quickly as their workload gets heavier.

Still other cops will get the resumes out there for the warmer climate move they had been debating for a while...

Tick, tick, tick....

That applies to other vax-mandated professions as well....

Don't know were you're from but there's a great talk show host in Boston,Howie Carr (a huge Trump supporter),who loves to point out the routine corruption in Massachusetts government. He often talks about the salaries of State Troopers and the corruption in that department. That's were I get those figures.
