Nassau County Sheriff Bill Leeper is calling on armed citizens in his county to “blow [35-year-old Patrick McDowell] out the door” if he targets their home.
McDowell is wanted for allegedly shooting Nassau County Sheriff’s Deputy Joshua Moyers during a traffic stop Friday. The New York Post reports that Moyers is not expected to survive and is being kept alive “until a match can be found for his organs.”
The Florida Times-Union notes that “Moyers was shot in the face, below his right eye, then in the back after collapsing to the ground,” during the traffic stop in the area of Callahan, Florida.
Sheriff Leeper responded by warning the public about McDowell, saying, “We now have a murderer on the loose in our community.”
Leeper added, “This guy is dangerous. If you’re in a home and he breaks into your home and you have a gun, blow him out the door cause he’s like a rabid animal. He will kill you with his mindset. What he did to that deputy, was uncalled for, unnecessary and he needs to pay for it.”

As long as his advice stays consistent every day of every year, works for me. Rarely do we get to interview and check ID of the person breaking into our home?
Anyone breaking into my home will die. And then I will sit down next to them and eat my meal.
I hope you aren’t expecting a scintillating conversation from your dinner guest.
I like this guy!
Most of Florida’s sherriffs are like him and Grady Judd. No nonsense when speaking...
And he is absolutely spot on, regardless of the fact the perp is a former Marine. 🙂
Back in the late 70s I lived in a 10 x 65 trailer out in the middle of a soybean field. One night a police car pull into my driveway, I stepped out of the trailer and a policeman got out of the car told me that there was a robbery at the small little store down the road and that the old couple that owned the store were pistol whipped. Then the deputy asked me if I had a shotgun. The cop says “well you better load it keep it handy” then he left to go check with everybody in the local area to be on the lookout.
Weird night. Never did find out if they found the robber(s).
Years ago there were two different instances in a Washington State county - maybe a couple weeks apart. One guy was shot (wounded) with an arrow. The neighbor friend saw a guy carrying a TV out the door of his neighbors who he knew was out of town, grabbed his bow and fired.
Then another robber was shot and killed in a home burglary.
The Sheriff said something like “Well, hopefully they’ll get the message that it is always open season on thieves in XYZ County.”
And of course once they are in your home I would assume that they were there to do me much harm. Otherwise they would have picked an empty house to rob.
If a common criminal breaks into your home there’s a good chance he’s NOT going to murder you... but this evil sociopath? He’ll murder you and your family without a hint of regret.
The Sheriff’s just giving warning - if you want to live - and you’re confronted by this monster breaking into your home- kill him before he kills you. Most people have problems killing a person. Well, except for Capitol police officers like Michael Byrd who assassinated an unarmed women he felt was NOT A THREAT TO HIM OR ANYONE ELSE. I’ll bet both these killers are democrats...but I digress...
He resembles Brian Laundrie
The culprit in this case is a waste of white former Marine who shot the deputy, a good guy, in the face and finished him off with a shot to the back on the ground. He also shot a police dog. He was driving a stolen van with stolen plates. Story from two years ago. Criminal burglary during the night and homeowner blows away the crook. Press all in a dither because the guy may or may not have had a gun or threatened the homeowner. Sheriff said to the lady presstitute: well, you have to understand here in Nassau County most residents are armed and if you break into their homes at night you are going to get shot. That was the last question he got and they skedaddled back to Jacksonville.
I am from that area. It is horrible. I would not have believed anything as bad as this could have happened there...................
No doubt unvaccinated.
Do you remember when Laurie Ellis was Sheriff?...............
No, I only go back as far as Geiger. Ellis had a rather notable history including time in the pen from what I gather.
Yes, he and his chief deputy were living large. Too large, for their paygrade!
They had, at that time, the only certified illegal drug incinerator in the NE Florida sector.
As a result, all the neighboring counties would take their illegal drug busts to them for destruction.
They would destroy some of it for the cameras and when the newsies left they would stash the rest and sell it on the street..................
I moved here in 96 from Texas albeit I worked in Jacksonville in the late 80s part of the time. I am glad our current Sheriff seems to steer clear of shenanigans.
