ARE ELECTRIC VEHICLES A JOKE?
Powerline ^ | September 25,2021 | BY JOHN HINDERAKER

No, not necessarily. Electric vehicles may be fine cars; Teslas certainly are (while Chevy Volts evidently are not). But the idea that our hundreds of millions of gasoline-powered cars are going to be replaced by EVs within the next century is ridiculous.

Where will the electricity come from? There is no sane answer to that question, especially since the only plausible solution–an enormous amount of nuclear power–is off the table. And of course, greatly expanding the electrical grid to accommodate EVs, mining the lithium necessary for batteries that vastly exceed anything that now exists, and developing an infrastructure of charging stations adequate to service hundreds of millions of EVs–these are practical matters to which little intelligent thought has been given.

So the current mania for electric vehicles is eminently deserving of ridicule. And ridicule is perhaps the most potent of political weapons. A friend sent me this video clip; I have no idea where it came from, although the laughter at the end makes me think it might be from Saturday Night Live, a show I haven’t seen since the 1970s. In any event, the video is entertaining and shines an appropriately skeptical light on the EV craze

The plan is to eliminate the need for them by eliminating 6.5 billion useless eaters.

Is "vehicle caused" climate change a JOKE? YES

Our earth's climate has changed up and down, up and down for millions of years and do you think it was caused by cars?????

And do you think if we got rid of cars it would stop?

Slaves won’t need any vehicles.

There will be plenty of electricity for the elites to run their cars.

Very fast so you can race others to the nearest charging station.

I like the idea of electric bikes and motorcycles yeah. But i think that the EV Car and Truck thing is a fad that will be abandoned as soon as the federal subsidies fail. The problem is that Gasoline is a better storage medium for energy than Batteries. And the gasoline engine is recyclable every piece. The Battery is an environmental Superfund site waiting to happen. The battery also is much dirtier to produce than a gasoline engine. So it’s not a joke... it’s just not practical.

If you want really clean technology then we need to wait for Fuel cells. Or maybe if they come up with a way to convert water directly to hydrogen. But then you’re running up against that whole thermodynamic thing about conservation of energy. Kind of seems like a pipe dream to me. I’ll be waiting for the results of the research before i actually embrace any of it.

But if it shows up on Nazi Pelozi disclosure form i’d invest in it. Because you can be assured that there’s federal largesse being piped into it.

It'll continue as long as idiot democrats subsidize their 'science' fantasies... with tax sucker money.

“Electric vehicles may be fine cars; Teslas certainly are (while Chevy Volts evidently are not). But the idea that our hundreds of millions of gasoline-powered cars are going to be replaced by EVs within the next century is ridiculous.”

Anyone in the northern tier of the United States that buys an electric vehicle is going to find out the hard way that the issues with them will become apparent when the weather gets below freezing and the batteries have very little power to start up.

Then you have the issue of heating the passenger compartment and deicing the Windshield.Thats going to take serious power.

Then on top of that Imagine being stuck at a street level parking lot and getting caught in a sudden snow storm. With the snows that we get up north an electric vehicle would be a disaster. The battery would drain rapidly and you’d be stuck on the side of the road.

I suppose if the battery technology was seriously improved electric vehicles might have a chance.

No, just not practical.

The battery salesman will be by shortly to have a melt down all over your nice thread.

But in reality we are still at the golf cart level of technology when it comes to the electric car and way below that when it comes to electric any thing else.

LOL! I have interviewed with a couple of EV companies and I think the people who are driving the EV train have no concept of what it will actually take to make them or self-driving vehicles practical in the US. Most of the US companies invested in this technology are selling out to the Japs...for a reason. The Japs are smarter and focusing on things like totally automated EV warehouses, logistical functions, etc. But driving from Omaha to Salt Lake City...in a snow storm...forget it!

No - but the problem is that these aren’t being developed “organically” but are being forced upon us.

Recall that the gasoline engine took over 50 years to be refined and developed before it became a common place asset - it then took another 40 years to have total adoption (before that public transportation and WALKING in the cities was still the norm)

We’re still at the very beginning stages of battery development and electric engine development on these scales.

We don’t even have a flying ELECTRIC aircraft yet and those were also commonplace long before the mass adoption of gas cars.

Add to that you have to completely change around the nations infrastructure with electric charging stations (let alone apartment complexes that have no electrical outlets near a car at all) or that we don’t have enough electrical energy in the grid to sustain mass charging like this anyway. Whooo solar and wind will charge our Teslas! (yeah, BS - you can’t even sustain the current infrastructure with it)
