In ignoring the latest John Durham indictment, most of the media and official Washington are ignoring the elephant between its lines: the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Mr. Durham, the special counsel appointed to investigate the government’s handling of the Russia collusion mess, levels a single criminal charge against Michael Sussmann, then a lawyer for the Democrat-linked firm Perkins Coie. In delivering to the FBI fanciful evidence of Trump-Russia collusion a few weeks before the 2016 election, Mr. Sussmann is alleged to have lied to the FBI’s chief lawyer, James Baker, claiming he was acting on his own behalf and not as a paid agent of the Clinton campaign.
Already you might be rolling your eyes. Mr. Durham provides ample reason in his own indictment for why the FBI would have known exactly whom Mr. Sussmann was working for. If Mr. Sussmann didn’t lie at the time, Mr. Baker may have lied since about what transpired between him and Mr. Sussmann. Either way, we are free to suspect the FBI would have found it useful to be protected from inconvenient knowledge about the Clinton campaign’s role. The same FBI then was busy ignoring the political antecedents of the Steele dossier, also financed by Mr. Sussmann’s law firm on behalf of the Clinton campaign, information that the FBI would shortly withhold from a surveillance court in pursuit of a warrant to spy on Trump pilot fish Carter Page.
Mr. Durham, in describing the Sept. 19, 2016, meeting with Mr. Baker, suggests that a properly informed FBI might have thought twice before opening an investigation into Mr. Sussmann’s phony story about the Trump Organization and Russia’s Alfa Bank.

I have always respected the FBI.
I think they should shut them down now.

It was probably too late 50+ years ago to do anything about the culture of the alphabet agencies. The FBI has 35,000+ employees and a budget of around 9 billion they deign to inform us about.
What politician is ever going to actually cut budgets and personnel during the 24 news cycle era? What if there is then an attack of some sort? No pol wants the label of having endangered security by cutting the alphabet clans beforehand when the next actual crisis comes. Or run the risk that they actually let something happen as a reprisal to getting their budget slashed.

They aren’t going to do it but I think it’s a good idea to talk about this in order to make the FBI understand that it better fix itself or else.

There’s been like 10 more examples since then of reasons to abolish them. And those are just things they couldn’t cover up.
No politician has the guts to run on abolishing the FBI even if it has no constitutional authority to exist. I’d be happy with cutting their budget. I’d go with 10% a year and every time they do something stupid they get another 10% cut.
And those 900 files are probably still paying dividends, because most of those same people are still running Washington.

Why? Because every second the maestro of cover up and obfuscation, and arrogance, also known as Chris Wray, is head of the FBI would violate your “stupid” rule.
All federal executive departments should be dismantled, but who are you going to trust to build something back to replace them.

Look higher - Examine their bosses, the Department of Justice.
the DOJ is the political nerve center and brain of Fed.gov. Nothing happens without that bureaucracy’s approval.
Just look at the role of AG’s since at least the 1950s. Every President had a true loyalist as AG. Obama had two fellow travellers and the organization of BLM, the war on local police, etc. etc. was ALL organized through the DOJ.
Now look at who Trump had, and how it nearly destroyed his Presidency.
The “lawyers” at DOJ still control the “cops” at the FBI.
