The former commander of U.S. troops in Afghanistan told senators Tuesday he opposed a full withdrawal from the country and advised Pentagon leadership of his position, the top Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee told reporters after a closed-door briefing with the general.
Gen. Scott Miller, who commanded U.S. and NATO troops in Afghanistan until July, told committee members he had informed Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley and U.S. Central Command chief Gen. Frank McKenzie he was "opposed to the total withdrawal," Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.) said.
"We heard enough to know that there are inconsistencies between what the administration has said and the truth," Inhofe added at a news conference with committee Republicans. "Clearly, President Biden didn't listen to all the military advice given."

Relieve General Milley, a rogue general.
Opposed?
The decision is up to the civilian leadership. His role is advise and then salute and carry out the orders as best he can.
Or throw his stars on the table & resign !
I believe that’s referring to Imhofe
Of course he did. How can all these new West Point grads get their colonelcies, stars and lucrative retirement jobs without the Forever War?
How is opposing a full withdrawal “a decision” not to withdraw?
Maybe they could melt Milley’s medals down and cast them as musket balls for his day of reckoning.
So if he opposed it, did he then screw it up out of spite?
“throw his stars on the table & resign !”
Agreed. I would think the Honor Code would demand it. Oh wait, the West Point Honor Code died in the last century.
Biden knew best. After all he’s only been wrong on every foreign policy decision for the last forty years so he has to be right sooner or later.Trust him? Not a chance. Obama and Val Jar are still calling the shots.
This is very disconnected. I was told not to worry when Trump was in office, due to his limited foreign policy bona fides. If he made a bad call, there were many who would make sure it was not implemented.
Now, with Biden’s real record, they actually followed his orders despite the fiasco they thought it would become.
Is this the big ‘Get Even’?
Miller is the fall guy. I believe he was retiring. I would bet he said something like, we need to hold onto the airbase and kabul airport. Those who know better in DC like Bidet through milli vanilli said you get 700 military to protect those bases. He probably responded it would be impossible to do so and said I can only somewhat defend one of them. So, they had their answer: Miller chose to only defend Kabul, and the rest is history.
From my personal experience with dealing with DC I learned the method they get their way is through support. Undercut the field manager by reducing resources.
I guess Miller did not hear Thatcher’s comment that she traced the decline in the British Empire by the invention of the telephone and its use between Whitehall and the field.
After all he’s only been wrong on every foreign policy decision for the last forty years..
He was lucky the train to Delaware originated in DC or the dope would probably have never found his way home.
I’m not going to support the resignation of one Right leaning
General.
We need more, not less.
What kind of a situation would our military be in if all
Right leaning generals resigned?
> How is opposing a full withdrawal “a decision” not to withdraw?
I did use the word “advise”...
Miller was gone before Bagram was abandoned.
