Megadeth‘s Dave Mustaine launched into an anti-mask rant during a concert in New Jersey last night (September 15)
The frontman decried the enforcement of masks in the US ahead of the band’s last song ‘Holy Wars… The Punishment Due’ at the Metal Tour Of The Year in Camden.
He said: “I just wanna tell you how great it is. Look around you, guys. Look to your right, look to your left, and look how wonderful this is. We’re all here together. We’re not freaking out, and we’re not yelling at people, ‘Wear your f***** mask.’
“Listen, it starts with this kind of a sensation that we build right now. We feel together, we feel like [there’s] strength in numbers. We feel like we are invincible. People will not be able to stop us.”

Dave Mustaine is one of us. I have always liked Megadeth. I saw them live in Fresno in 1990. Great concert.
Megadeth is still my all time favorite metal band, even above Metallica. Sounds like you got to see them during the Rust In Peace tour. I did see them in summer 1995 at Pine Knob a bit north of Detroit during the Youthanasia tour. And the unknown opening band at the time became huge as well. As Korn was supporting their debut album at the time. Fun times though.
I’m just glad that Dave is one of us now. As I do recall him being a bit liberal way back in the day. But I see time changes things for some.
keep in mind that 30 years ago, Republicans were basically the country club elite types (Think the Bush family) and 1980’s heavy metal was the complete opposite of the establishment at the time.
in the 1960’s the peace-love, freedom hippies were against the establishment. Today they are against freedom and are the establishment.
All I know is that I have been consistent for 40 years—all the kids in school used to laugh at me when I was into Led Zeppelin, Ozzy, Maiden, Sabbath, Priest etc.....
“you like Ozzy???? He’s a psycho—he bites the heads off of bats”
“I never thought I’d live to see the day when the right wing would become the cool ones giving the middle finger to the establishment, and the left wing become the sniveling self-righteous twatty ones going around shaming everyone.” John Lydon aka. “Johnny Rotten” The Sex Pistols
At Ozzfest ‘98, Megadeth was on the main stage while Motorhead was on the side stage. Had to pick Motorhead, and I’m glad I got to see them now that Lemmy’s gone.
Megadeath > Metallica
Doesn’t meet any definition of a “rant”.
“We have the power, especially us … heavy metal fans, we have the power to change things.”
Can they bring election integrity? If not nothing is going to change and Republicans right now are doing nothing about this almost a year before the midterms.
Never been a Megadeath fan, glad he is speaking out, we need more performers to do it.
The GOP Is responsible for what we have and what we see going on in this country. Early on we believed they were with us with the tea party and we believed them when they were with us with trump They have proved they are bed partners with the rats all along. Where to now?
Rockers always were supposed to be libertarian types, opposing the crap imposed by “the man”.
+1
He did the same thing at the show in The Woodlands last month.
Good old MEGADAVE.
Even in the late 80”s early 90’s Dave had some Libertarian tendencies. I remember reading an interview in Rip! magazine where he expressed no love for Barbara “wa wa” (he had some recent interview with her) and as a teen at the time I thought that was funny. iirc it was titled “Dave Mustaine for president?”
Honorable mention then. 🙂
I saw Motorhead in the late '80s in a club in Houston on the Orgasmatron tour.
LOL! I wondered if anyone else would pick up on that. Sounds like unhinged lunatic ravings if you say “rant”. You should see the rollingstone diatribe about the incident. Right wing conspiracy theorist blah blah blah.......... Typical cancel culture BS from them. Guess they didn’t notice the audience being in agreement with Dave.
