You have stated the unfortunate solution to this problem. Unless and until crossing the border illegally has a very high probability of being the last thing one does in their lifetime, the invasion will not abate.
Try crossing a border illegally in the middle east. If caught, you will most likely be executed on the spot and your body thrown into a ravine where the night creatures will dine upon it until nothing is left. Your execution will not be reported. Your family will never know what happened and will have only memories of you.

Only because there's an election coming up. I saw an interview about an ex TX senator, Don Huffines, who's running for governor. He's a businessman and seems like a constitutional type and was rated one of the most conservative when in the senate. Only had one term because his district included Austin and went blue.
How about several months and half a million illegals ago? There's been 100k or more coming across the border every month, much of it through TX.

Many forget the governor has a duty to repel invasion.
