Research shows the U.S. had reached what some scientists believed to be "herd immunity" status against Covid-19 last May, with more than 80% of the population immune to Covid either through natural infection or vaccination.
And the actual number of immune Americans may be higher.
That's because the new study, funded by the Centers or Disease Control (CDC), factored in only 20% of the population as being protected through natural infection after recovering from Covid-19. But over three months ago, CDC estimated the naturally-infected population to be substantially higher: more than 120 million or 36%. And after the spread of Delta variant, and the passage of three more months, experts say the percentage of naturally immune is much higher than the 36% estimate, though CDC has not publicly updated its number in months.
Still, even assuming the study's lower estimate of naturally immune, and adding in the vaccinated, researchers concluded 83% of the population was immune from Covid-19 as of last May.
One confounding factor is that the vaccines are less effective at preventing Covid infection and spread than hoped.
Many fully-vaccinated patients have gotten Covid-19 in recent months, and thousands of fully-vaccinated have been hospitalized or died of Covid in the U.S. Authorities say that's still a tiny number compared to all who have gotten vaccinated. But they are now looking into different spacing between double-doses and the possibility of additional boosters shots for those hoping to develop immunity through vaccination.
CDC stopped tracking Covid-19 infections among the fully-vaccinated on May 1, when they began to get increasingly common, unless the patients end up hospitalized or dead.
According to CDC, it knows of 14,115 fully-vaccinated people who got Covid-19 and were hospitalized or died (as of September 7).
Some experts now say because the vaccines are not preventing Covid-19 infection, or spread of Covid-19, a higher threshold than initially thought will be necessary to reach herd immunity.
Some scientists hoped a 70% immune rate would do the trick and defeat Covid-19. Now, some are saying it may take 90%. Some experts believe the U.S. has reached that level.
Meantime, the Biden Administration has announced its intention to force 100 million Americans, even the naturally-immune, to get vaccinated for Covid-19 (if they aren't already), or be fired from their jobs. Officials haven't explained why a mandate would come at a time when scientists agree the population has reached or neared herd immunity.
They also haven't explained why vaccination would be required of the naturally-immune, when the bulk of studies show that immunity gained after infection is superior and longer-lasting than vaccine-induced immunity.
Some public health experts dispute the bulk of the studies and say that those who have been infected with Covid-19 can benefit from vaccination. In December, CDC officials got caught falsely stating that studies showed a benefit.
An article in Science also falsely reported that a study found benefits to vaccination for those who already had natural immunity from natural infection. (See #23 here.) Science later corrected the article when a reader flagged the false information.
The Biden Administration hasen't said why illegal border crossers are not required to show proof of vaccination or a negative Covid-test; are not tested before they're released in the U.S.; and are not required to be vaccinated like many legal Americans will be. On the other hand, U.S. citizens returning from abroad are not allowed into the U.S. without proof of immunity or a negative Covid test.
Ergo the CDC guidance to drop mask recommendations for the fully vaccinated as of May 13.
Of course obfuscated by Chairman Xoe for transportation, federal buildings, and anyplace else he can rule by dictate.

Currently in the USA as well as most other highly vaccinated countries in the world most people hospitalized people with Covid, and those dying with Covid have been vaccinated. Here is just one study originating from the CDC.

I manage data for about 70,000 people out of those about 40,000 are vaccinated. We are a moderna site. I ran the numbers yesterday,we are not seeing a drop of in protection but we just passed the 8 month mark for completion of the first vaccinations. It is very apparent went Delta hit just looking at the scatter plot. Protection dropped from about 90+% to about 70% but we are doing a lot more asymptomatic testing now so the data isn’t clean, protection from symptomatic disease is higher than 70% but I can’t say by how much. For Delta breakthrough, cases are just as likely to occur in someone vaccinated last month as 8 months ago.
We are still seeing more 90% protection from hospitalization but the data set isn’t clean enough to be more specific.
We haven’t had a death since starting monoclonal antibody treatment so fortunately I can’t calculate protection against mortality.
We are not seeing the deaths and morbidity after vaccination reported on FR but I have a fairly small sample size.
We have herd immunity to covid. Now we just need herd immunity to the jabs.
It doesn’t say how the number of previously infected was calculated. If it’s based on PCR test results, I don’t think that number is reliable.
A herd immunity calculation based on the above plus vaccines with waning efficacy would seem to be fluid.
Our problem isn’t quack doctors, it’s captured institution. Your sources are not valid.

Folks, the world-o-meter trend follower has spoken, there is nothing more to say... Of course in his view anything disparaging the truly awful experimental vaccines is bad information. Let me give my own abbreviated chronology. Just before the Afghanistan debacle Covid was taking a back seat in the news and the Arizona audit was making Democrats freak out... So we get this wag the dog reaction out of the Biden administration that they thought would make him a big hero. Instead it went spectacularly bad and his numbers dropped to new lows causing them to freak out again.
They had to get Afghanistan out of the news so they launched a full on propaganda war on Covid and the “unvaccinated”. What we had was a surge in “cases” mostly from places where it gets uncomfortable in the summer and people hang out indoors where the new more contagious and completely “vaccine resistant” “Delta Variant” spreads easily.
The Biden administration wanted to take some sort of provocative action before the “Delta” fizzled out as it has already started to do in places where it became a problem first. Why? ...to get Afghanistan out of the news cycle and so they could take credit for the fizzle.
Delta is a blessing in disguise... it is providing actual immune responses from people who somehow were not exposed to the original Fauci gain of function flu last year and earlier this year. Covid has been with us for eternity and will continue to be with us in the future but people are now becoming much more resistant to it, despite and not because of the profit taking from big pharma.
Not counting the stolen election... the biggest downside to this entire Covid fiasco is that people will be rightfully suspicious of all vaccines in the future. Millions of people will die from fully preventable disease outbreaks because of this. Because yes there are truly awful diseases that had been eliminated from this country because of vaccination programs. And now we have a huge influx of people entering the country carrying these diseases. Covid is a bad joke by comparison.

Out of total population of 331,089,936
Total death count for 50yr olds to 85+yr olds 622,362.
Subtract the 622,362 from 658,755 = 36,392 deaths of those 49 and under. Those numbers are epidemic totals.
Without a breakdown of total population by age cohorts it seems that a seat of the pants guess tha about half the population under 50 is in little danger of dying from Covid19...so why the frantic push for 100% vaccinations. CDC, NIH, and every major hospital is aware of these numbers.
For a reality check here are the leading causes of death in the USA:

Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 156,979
Stroke (cerebrovascular diseases): 150,005

In order to get that data they have to include all the data prior to the vaccine. It’s lying with statistics. As the data starts to change they then only use data to June. That’s how the FDA approved Phizer vax and stated 95% effective even though it’s effectively dropped to 40% the month prior. They only looked at the data submitted not their own current data.
We get lied to over and over. Most don’t know it. Parrots.

US hospitals were given financial incentive up front to game the numbers, and many simply do not test the vaccinated and the CDC isn’t counting either.
Even if you honestly want to you aren’t going to get good data in the US.
As a result, we appear to be having a totally different experience than any other place in the world. It just isn’t plausible.

The Forbes article was based on data that you quote and linked to was derived from data that added in all the “Covid deaths” before the vaccines were even available.

This data was hugely inflated by adding deaths that had almost nothing to do with Covid. And of course in the beginning the “experimental vaccines” were effective. The reason for using mRNA technology was because “experts” knew the virus would mutate within a short period of time and render traditional vaccines worthless. It has now been demonstrated conclusively that the mRNA experiment was a colossal failure.
Any conclusions drawn from data that came before “Delta” and other variants became the prevalent strains is basically worthless. This is a dynamic situation. Fortunately the primary issue with not enough “hospital beds” is really just a problem with a shortage of nurses caused largely by vaccine mandates that are causing a large percentage of nurses to quit. Once this is rectified everything will eventually get back to normal.
