GOP Rep. Anthony Gonzalez of Ohio announced on Thursday that he will not seek reelection, becoming the first of the 10 House Republicans who had voted in January to impeach then-President Donald Trump to decide to retire. Trump has targeted the Republicans, trying to purge them from the party.
"1 down, 9 to go," Trump said in a statement after Gonzalez's announcement.
The other nine House Republicans have also faced backlash, including from Trump, members of their party and primary challenge threats. But they're also well positioned in that their campaigns have raised in most races more money than their primary challengers.

Democrats want power first & foremost. They’ll argue about the details maybe later. (If they do they keep it internal !) That’s why they maintain discipline & stay on message. Republicans\Conservatives argue publicly about the details first, politically wound everybody, then get around to seeking power. By then its too late they’ve already demonstrated they’re not serious about gaining power !
The Democrat Party has other ways of dealing with people who don’t follow the party line, e.g., Vince Foster.
Why stop at 9? Make it easy. Vote all the bums out!
Hmmm. Must have been my imagination when card-carrying DemocRAT Congressmen Virgil Goode, Ralph Hall, Paul McHale, Charles Stenholm and Gene Taylor all crossed party lines and voted to impeach Slick Willie.
Granted, all of them besides McHale were very conservative RATS (as in, actual conservatives, not "blindly support socialist RAT policies 95% of the time but identified as 'conservative' by the media", like today's faux "conservative" Democrats), and three of them (Goode, Hall, and Taylor) later became Republicans.
And in modern times, let's not forget NJ's Jeff Van Drew was a Democrat who opposed Trump's impeachment. He (correctly) realized he couldn't get re-elected as RAT if he did that, so he promptly switched parties.
