Spot propane prices at Mont Belvieu, Texas, have reached their highest levels since 2014 ahead of the winter season on fears of low inventory. Energy inflation could be problematic for commercial and residential users of the fuel that heats building structures and powers vehicles, gas grills, patio heaters, generators, among many other uses.
Propane is set up for a volatile ride this fall/winter season as supplies are about 20% below the five-year average for this time of year. The most recent U.S. Energy Department data shows inventories of around 70.8 million barrels.
The propane surge also comes from the rise in natural gas and crude prices. Propane is a byproduct of natgas production and petroleum-refining processes. About 80% of U.S. propane is a byproduct from natgas.
At Mont Belvieu, Texas, spot propane prices are up more than 60% this year, reaching levels not seen since 2014. Energy inflation will cause headaches for the 5% of U.S. households that heavily rely on the fuel that heats their homes.
Propane prices are coming to an inflection point in terms of seasonality.
Taking all of this into account, one can only hope the energy crisis in Europe of low natural gas supplies and record-high prices doesn’t spread to the U.S.
We don’t need evil fossil fuels.
They can freeze in the dark for all I care.
"After weeks of covering the remarkable, record hyperinflation in European gas prices, which have soared to such tremendous levels that protests against the price of electricity across Europe are a daily occurrence, it is hardly a secret to anyone that the cost of living in Europe this winter will be especially miserable, and could be even more miserable if Vladimir Putin decides to throttle gas deliveries to Europe."
Saw it coming……..signed a contract.
Lack in your price now if you can……..
Lock, not lack.
Welcome to Bidenomics!
Cut supply, demand remains the same = increase in price.
Funny how that works.
The Pacific Northwest is a huge exporter of propane to Japan from Ferndale WA and Vancouver Island BC.
This has changed the propane game nationally - and the exporters are a Canadian company from both locations (Altagas).
It is going to be a brutal winter with price increases/shortages of everything you can imagine...
This is gonna be Jimmy Carter with a dab of Adolph on the side...expect scapegoating like we have never seen before.
Family bought a thousand gallon propane tank and filled it a couple weeks ago. All set.
Bidenflation has hit us hard.
I had about 100 gallons in my tank. Bought another 200 gallons August 30 at a price of $2.45 per.
You really ARE from Detroit, aren't you?
Lack in your price now if you can……..
Would that be "lick" ?
(...or in your case, "luck" ?)
That’s hugh!
“Necessarily skyrocket”
Won’t effect me; I use charcoal.
I recall last summer when Trump was still our president, propane was the lowest i has ever seen at $9.99/gallon. Previous years i saw the price from $14-$17. Places like HD, Lowes we’re even higher by a few $/gallon then at BJ’s where i get mine filled
“Are people learning to expect shortages of everything?”
totally ... the fascist left has been training us with increasing shortages and price increases ever since the fascist left took over ... they’ve been using the frog-in-a-slowly-heated-pot methodology hoping we won’t notice or at least get used to it ...
BBQ tanks at HD or Wal-Mart are not one gallon tanks. They are 20lb tanks which is 4.6 gallons of liquid propane. That’s completely full to the DOT regulation amounts. Wal-Mart and HD do not sell 20lb exchange tanks they sell 15lb fills. This is easily checked pick up an exchange look on the side of the tank there will be a TW stamp and a number typically 18 lbs that’s the come dry empty tare weight of the tank. Put that tank on a scale and subtract the TW amount I guarantee you it will be between 14 and 15 lbs never 20.
TSC sells propane by the gallon filled into your empty tank last time I went to my local TSC it was $3.29 per gallon I filled all four of my portable tanks to take camping and tailgating with. TSC will fill a in spec tank to the full 20lb rating if it’s purged right.
Nice job.
There was just so much wrong with that post that I could not bring myself to attempt to correct it. lol
I always tell them to “test my OPD” and make sure it is as full as it will let it.
These kids nowdays always try to stop at 4.0 gallons because they are afraid of it. Had one kid tell me they will blow up if too full. lol
Another one is the 10% valve, pisses me off when they crank it open three turns and waste a 1/4 gallon to fill it. “How could it have held 5.2 gallons?, I’m not paying for what you just threw into the air”
