In watching various 9/11 retrospectives in the weeks leading up to the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, I keep coming back to one thought: Thank God George W. Bush was president, and not the enfeebled Joe Biden or the mendacious Barack Obama. It’s hard to even imagine how much worse those awful days following the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon would have been without the steady hand of Bush, who was at the time just seven months into his presidency.
One documentary I watched last week has Bush recounting that terrible day, moment by moment, beginning with his routine morning jog. He described his feelings upon being told by chief of staff Andy Card that America was under attack as he sat listening to children reading in a Sarasota, Fla., school. “I’m sitting in the midst of a classroom with little kids, listening to a children’s story and I realize I’m the commander in chief and the country has just come under attack,” he later recalled. For just a moment, his face betrayed shock, but Bush quickly regained his composure, allowing storytime to continue for another eight or nine minutes so as not to frighten the children with an abrupt departure. One can only imagine the emotions that were running through his mind at that moment: fear, anger, uncertainty, disbelief—the same ones the rest of us were feeling, but with the addition of the great weight of his responsibility.
He faced that moment like a man, standing before the children and teachers at the school, appearing cool and composed, and speaking directly to the American people...

I don’t think Bush really ever wanted to get Bin Laden. Once he did, then there would have been pressure to leave Afghanistan.
I think I’m gonna puke. Is PJ Media really that bad?
Democrats wanted war too, they just played being opposed to it, because a Pubbie was in the White House.
All you have to do is look at all the quotes about Saddam that the Rats were saying before Bush went into office. They accused him of all the same things, and said we’d probably have to go in.
“Taking the conflict off shore, to Iraq/Afghanistan, to a “honey pot” .... saved us. Rule number one for fighting wars, is fight them in someone else’s land. The terrorist swarmed south Asia, instead of swarming us.”
Garbage. We ARE being swarmed.
He was the same and we lost 8 years thinking everything was ok.
After seeing the true colors of George w bush shine through, I will NEVER give this man another accolade. NEVER. He can go to hell.
GW wasted too much time on nation building and left us stuck in countries for decades. Iraq was a big mistake and not worth the effort or expense of lives or $. GW was a screwup and proves it all the time even now.
Or the huge mess he made at the border. Bush was a horrible President, and I’m not going to be thankful it wasn’t worse. Republicans need to do better.
In 2000 the only 2 choices for the GOP nomination were Bush and McCain.
He was a total moron and if Gore had been there same outcome, endless wars forever.
Al Gore was the alternative
By about 338 votes in Florida, as I recall
The Al Gore that got a big payoff from the companies that successfully lobbied against Fed regulations to reinforce airliner cockpit doors, just months before the election
And Bush messed it up as bad as you can imagine. Gore probably would have to.
If we had a democrat as president I think more conservatives would have pushed back against the “patriot act”. Too many went along with it just because a republican was president.
The Bush family is as corrupt and tyrannical as the Obama family, Clinton family, and Biden family.
“We are in a 100 year war. 60 years to go…”
Nope. The “Forever War” has been ongoing since 630CE (”CE” stands for Christian Era). Sometimes one side wins a campaign or battle, sometimes the other side wins, but the war goes on.
Bush? Meh..
Donald J. Trump would not have called Islam, “the religion of peace!”
> And Bush messed it up as bad as you can imagine. Gore probably would have to. <
Gore would have appointed worse federal judges. But on the three critical areas below, Gore could not have done worse than Bush did, and he might have done better:
Afghanistan
Iraq
The US border
So I think I’d have to give a slight overall edge to Gore. And it’s not because Gore was so great. It’s because Bush was so appalling bad. Looking back to 2000, it’s a sin that those two duds were our only real choices.
Not much difference between Bush, Obozo and Biden; all low IQ.
Where’s the barf alert?
The GOP had me fooled for a long time. Now I detest them more than the Rats. At least the Rats dont hide what they are.
