ATLANTA — Channel 2 Action News has learned that a man is dead and another was injured during a shooting at a busy Buckhead shopping center.
The shooting happened around 4 p.m. at the Peachtree Battle Shopping Center in the 2300 block of Peachtree Road.
Police said a man was coming out of one of the stores when he saw people breaking into his car. That’s when he confronted them and started shooting to defend himself.
Investigators said another man ran from the scene and was shooting off rounds as he ran. They located that person a short distance later.
In total, two people were shot. One was killed at the scene. The other was taken to a nearby hospital and was last listed as stable.
Branch Properties, which owns the shopping center, released a statement, saying:
“On Friday afternoon, the security team at Peachtree Battle Shopping Center responded to a situation that occurred in the parking lot. Our team was on-site and responded immediately and is continuing to work closely with the Atlanta Police Department. The safety of our guests is our top priority, and we are continuing to keep heightened security measures in place on-site.”

He let one live? Not good.
What’s the latest on Buckhead becoming a city? I haven’t heard much about it lately.
For those not familiar, Buckhead is the high-end part of Atlanta. The governor’s mansion is a hop, skip and a jump away. This shopping center is very close to a major medical complex, Piedmont Hospital. Not far north on Peachtree are a number of high end hi-rise condos. Just to give some flavor of the area.
It is damn near impossible politically / legally, if you ask me. That said, there is a LOT of money in Buckhead, and a lot of unhappiness at being in the City of Atlanta. And big money can make a big difference.
No chance that will happen. Its in the middle of Atlanta with a heavy tax revenue. Atlanta will not let it go.
Thanks for the color.
I was there when all the folks in north Atlanta fought against MARTA subway because all it would do is bring crime...Guess they were right.
“[H]e confronted them and started shooting to defend himself’
“Self defense” would make more sense it they had confronted him, rather than he being the aggressor.
More Amish acting out?
I live in a conservative oasis in the Soviet of Washington. I’m also an outside senior design consultant for a very large company with a large territory in the previously mentioned area.
I have possessed a concealed carry permit for well over 40 years. I did not carry every day however until the Summer of Love last year. Now, “I never leave home without it.”
With car-jacking incidents going thru the roof, just last night the neutered police, (new legislation says cops must have probable cause to pursue or arrest, which has caused cops not to respond the way they should), actually CAUGHT a guy who jacked a semi at gun point.
The day before a lady had her Lexus (had a low jack system), jacked at gun point at a shopping center. One of the police helicopters located the low-jack ping and spotted the stolen car, but the shift boss called off the helicopter because, even though they found the car, it couldn’t be proved the person driving the stolen car 5 minutes after the jack was the jacker, so the pilot broke off. You could hear the frustration in the pilot’s voice as he acknowledged the order!
Yes, we’re going to see much, much more of this. Please, please, please make all the necessary steps possible to protect yourself and your immediate circle of influence, more than just your family, I watch out for my elderly neighbors too.
“Hey you guys, you don’t mind if I keep my stuff, do you?”
“Confronted was the word used by the local news reporter, probably a kid.
Elsewhere in the story it appears the owner of the car attempted to stop a crime in progress - people breaking into his car.
Things got out of hand, the owner feared for his life, and shots were fired in self defense.
Authorities in Atlanta will probably put the car owner away for life.
I led the charge of keeping MARTA out of Gwinnett in 2019. We still do not have MARTA, but they keep trying.
I was there when all the folks in north Atlanta fought against MARTA subway because all it would do is bring crime...Guess they were right.
Love how the mall management tries to cover their ass:
“The safety of our guests is our top priority, and we are continuing to keep heightened security measures in place on-site.”
Uh yeah sure ... your mall security is so lousy you’ve got car thieves openly breaking into vehicles in your parking lot ... that’s “caring about your customers” ??
Grammar police on patrol....
Made the Kessel run in ten parsecs.
Hope all Patriots stuck behind enemy lines will reclaim their state. Otherwisw there’ll be little difference between GA and CA in a few years.
Must have something to do with the concept of the space-time continuum...

Protecting your property IS self-defense.
