I love this man.
L
First 2022, then 2024. Bring it on.
He forgot to thank Nikki Haley for getting this ball rolling.
That’s Nimrata Randhawa.
Not an American first person.
Dual allegiance t**t.
Me too.
A staunch defense of history. Absolutely courageous and needed. Well done Mr. President
Nimrata...is that the same as Nimrod?
Trump is perhaps one of the most underrated presidents in our
nation’s history.
Even folks on our own side take pot shots at him continually.
It’s truly sad to watch the utter confusion at all levels of
our society today.
Europe has been schooled by the ineptness of Biden. Trump is
even begrudgingly being seen in a whole new light these days,
but they wouldn’t dare admit to being as foolish as they were.
Brilliant.
Well Said by President Trump!
Love this President and God Bless Him!
Thank you President Trump!
I love him too! Miss him terribly!
Someone, somewhere will criticize President Trump for his statement on Robert E. Lee.
I, however, love him for it.
All my life I’ve heard that “The South Will Rise Again!”
Really? Where are you Southerners right now? Hmmm?
If you people won’t rise up now then SHUT UP FOREVER!!!!
Dwight D. Eisenhower – raised in Kansas, graduate of West Point, Supreme Allied Commander of World War II, five-star general, and President of the United States...
August 9, 1960
Dear Dr. Scott:
Respecting your August 1 inquiry calling attention to my often expressed admiration for General Robert E. Lee, I would say, first, that we need to understand that at the time of the War between the States the issue of secession had remained unresolved for more than 70 years. Men of probity, character, public standing and unquestioned loyalty, both North and South, had disagreed over this issue as a matter of principle from the day our Constitution was adopted.
General Robert E. Lee was, in my estimation, one of the supremely gifted men produced by our Nation. He believed unswervingly in the Constitutional validity of his cause which until 1865 was still an arguable question in America; he was a poised and inspiring leader, true to the high trust reposed in him by millions of his fellow citizens; he was thoughtful yet demanding of his officers and men, forbearing with captured enemies but ingenious, unrelenting and personally courageous in battle, and never disheartened by a reverse or obstacle. Through all his many trials, he remained selfless almost to a fault and unfailing in his faith in God. Taken altogether, he was noble as a leader and as a man, and unsullied as I read the pages of our history.
From deep conviction, I simply say this: a nation of men of Lee’s calibre would be unconquerable in spirit and soul. Indeed, to the degree that present-day American youth will strive to emulate his rare qualities, including his devotion to this land as revealed in his painstaking efforts to help heal the Nation’s wounds once the bitter struggle was over, we, in our own time of danger in a divided world, will be strengthened and our love of freedom sustained.
Such are the reasons that I proudly display the picture of this great American on my office wall.
Sincerely,
Dwight D. Eisenhower
I think I’m going to find a biography of Lee and perhaps a portrait for framing. He can live in my house anytime.
They removed a lot of statues under his watch. I was told it was brilliant and Sun Tzu of him to let it happen because it would swing around in his favor at election time.
The problem with many Civil War era figures comes because history cannot separate the civil war from slavery.
However, I believe that many historical figures, including Jefferson, Robert E. Lee and many others need to be looked at for their whole life, for all their contributions, and not just banishing them from history for their faults alone, and not by taking their faults out of the context of their own times, in which many of their faults were not universally recognized as such; making them not perfect, but just human, imperfect as we all are.
Lee’s post Civil War record was exemplary, and it should be so recognized. And as for his military leadership I think he was second in the first 100 years of U.S. history to only George Washington. Lee was the Confederacy’s great advantage, but Lincoln had all the other advantages.
Lee’s problem was also his honest character. He was loyal to the land and people of his forefathers, Virginia, and that loyalty could not separate him from them.
If Virginians were intellectually honest today, they’d still honor Lee as one of their greats, warts and all.
Thank you Donald Trump. Lee was the greatest American since Washington.
