News Clippings:

Business Insider reports: Pfizer picked a COVID-19 vaccine dose far lower than Moderna's to minimize side effects, its top scientist says. Pfizer's vaccine has 30 micrograms of mRNA, the active ingredient. Moderna's has 100 micrograms. Both vaccines produce similar side effects, according to the CDC. (but Moderna is reported to produce higher antibody counts).

The World Health Organization called Wednesday for countries to avoid giving out extra Covid jabs until year-end, pointing to the millions worldwide who have yet to receive a single dose.

Ireland to give COVID-19 vaccine booster shot to over-80s.

Spain approved booster shots for at-risk.

UK decision on Covid vaccine boosters expected on Thursday (9 Sep).

The Guardian (UK) reports: The number of Covid-19 patients in hospitals across the US this Labor Day weekend was nearly 300% higher than this time last year, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. The average number of deaths was over 86% higher than the same period last year. The surge in patients comes as the highly contagious Delta variant continues to spread across the US.

The Atlantic opines: Why the ACLU Flip-Flopped on Vaccine Mandates (They support COVID vaccine mandates, but opposed them for H1N1 Flu)

The Hill reports: The COVAX program estimates that its global COVID-19 vaccine deliveries will fall almost 30 percent below its goal of sending out 2 billion doses by the end of the year. The international organizations attributed the predicted shortfall to several factors, including restrictions on exports from the Serum Institute of India - a key supplier for vaccines, and problems increasing manufacturing at vaccine facilities, particularly those that supply Johnson & Johnson and the AstraZeneca vaccines. Lags in regulatory approval for other vaccines created by U.S. company Novavax and Chinese firm Clover have also contributed to the lack of expected doses.

The Grio reports: Detroit hospital employees sue over COVID-19 vaccine mandate. They claim Henry Ford Health System’s mandate for its workers to be vaccinated against COVID-19 infringes on bodily autonomy.

Reuters reports: Novavax begins early-stage trial for combined influenza/COVID-19 vaccine... Novavax had said in May it expects seasonal influenza and COVID-19 combination vaccines to likely be critical in combating emerging COVID-19 variants.

WaPo reports: Jim Jordan says vaccine mandates are un-American.

Newsweek reports: Arizona AG Says Tuscon Vaccine Mandate Is Illegal, Warns City Could Lose Millions in Funds.

Business Insider reports: Here is a rundown of new entry requirements announced in recent days, as detailed on the websites of US embassies in Europe:

In Italy, fully vaccinated US visitors must take a COVID-19 test 72 hours before entering the country. Unvaccinated visitors must self-isolate for 5 days after arrival.

The Netherlands has barred all unvaccinated US travelers from entering the country, and is requiring vaccinated US travelers to quarantine for ten days, though that can be reduced to five days if a COVID-19 test shows negative results.

Bulgaria has one of the toughest restrictions, with any traveler coming from the US, regardless of nationality, now barred from entry.

Sweden has banned all nonessential travel from the US regardless of vaccination status, removing the US from a list of "safe countries" of non-EU countries exempt from travel restrictions.

Denmark has banned unvaccinated US travelers, while those who have been vaccinated will need to show a negative COVID-19 test to enter.

Spain is also allowing only fully vaccinated travelers from the US to enter the country, and requiring a negative COVID-19 test. The US embassy in Spain added that travelers must also fill out a health certificate before their trip.

Business Insider reports: 3 concerning variants have caught scientists' attention since Delta emerged - here's how they compare. Three coronavirus variants - Lambda, Mu, and C.1.2 - have raised red flags among scientists lately. The variants show signs of being highly transmissible, able to circumvent vaccine protection, or both. But so far, none is more concerning than Delta, the world's dominant strain.

US Magazine reports: Gleb Savchenko (37, pro dancer on "Dancing With The Stars") Reveals He Had a ‘Pretty Bad’ Case of the Delta Variant of COVID-19: ‘I Was Dying’... “My heart was [going], like, 167 beats per minute. I fainted a couple of times. I called 911 twice.” (He tested negative twice, before positive on the third test. After recovering, he got vaccinated)

SeaCoastOnline reports: The parent company of Maine Medical Center is postponing some elective surgical procedures because of the surge in COVID-19 cases. Maine Medical Center reduced surgeries by 30% last week, and all hospitals in the MaineHealth network are reducing surgeries that require a hospital admission after surgery, said Dr. Joan Boomsma, chief medical officer... MaineHealth is the parent company of eight hospitals including Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport, Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington and Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick.

Advisory Board (advisory.com) reports: What 2 new CDC studies reveal about the delta variant in kids... In one of the studies, researchers looked at data from the Covid-Net surveillance network, which includes hospitalization data from 99 counties in 14 states. They found that, between late June and mid-August, Covid-19 hospitalization rates among children and teenagers rose almost fivefold—and hospitalization rates were 10 times higher in unvaccinated adolescents compared to vaccinated adolescents... In the other study, researchers looked at data from two national surveillance systems representing hospitals in 49 states and Washington, D.C. They found that, since July when the delta variant became dominant in the United States, Covid-19 cases, ED visits, and hospital admissions among children 17 and younger have risen much more sharply in less-vaccinated states.

Boosters: 1.51 Million...

....Vaccinations Strong.

LOL! So strong you'll need another "booster" for the "vaccine" in another few months.

If the CDC says it's so, it's not.

Of note is that now over a quarter of cases are in children. Thankfully, the overwhelming majority of kids fight it off better than many other respiratory diseases. Unfortunately, school kids will be a major source of cases to the more vulnerable parental age people. Image

Thanks for posting, as always. With the total vaccinated added to the total recovered cases, that’s a lot of America.

The only way to any semblance of herd immunity is to keep the schools open and let the kids develop real immunity by catching be disease. Time to treat it just like the FlU.

My wife works in a lifetime facility for those with varying kinds of physical and mental handicaps. This weekend she found out 14 patients in one building were infected with covid, 12 of them fully are vaccinated.

I tend to agree. While COVID in kids is not something to sneeze at (no pun intended), as a whole it seems bad public policy to deprive kids of another year of school. Particularly considering most will at some point catch it regardless of any mitigation measures save a plastic bubble.

Yep, it looks like this is where we’re headed. There’s almost a Chicken Pox analogy here. The disease passes through the young as hardly more than a minor annoyance. They then develop natural immunity without the ordeal that the disease could cause as an adult.

Big picture of last 18 months: 170 million vaccinated, boosters at five months, lock downs and masks, and now after all that cases and deaths higher then they were last year at this time!!

It’s like the vaccines, lockdowns, and masks did absolutely nothing.

Did you see this?

NEW - 90 people were vaccinated against Covid with the third dose in a retirement home in Oberhausen, Germany. Of these, nine had reactions so severe that they had to be treated. Resuscitation procedures had to be initiated in two cases three days after vaccination. @disclosetv— Tormund Giantsbane (@Tormund_G_) September 7, 2021

“it seems bad public policy to deprive kids of another year of school.”

Mortality from COVID for Americans under 18 (since it began) is comparable to a single relatively bad flu season (400-500). Anybody who wants to be vaccinated can get it for free, and they have had plenty of time to do so. It looks like we are past peak for hospital utilization.

There is not much objective rationale for closing schools.
