U.S.A. –-(AmmoLand.com)- In August of 2021, National Instant Background Check System (NICS) and the associated gun sales are at high levels, but not as high as the record sales in 2020. The August sales of 2021 are the second-highest on record, as were the July sales in 2021.
This may indicate a new normal of consistently high gun sales, below the record-setting levels of 2020.
There were about 1.29 million gun sales recorded by NICS this past August. In 2020, gun sales were about 1.67 million. The next highest August was in 2016, with about 1.17 million gun sales.
These consistently high gun sales in 2020 may come from political unrest, lack of faith in the electoral system, and millions of new gun owners. In 2020, estimates of new gun owners varied between 4 and 8 million. This correspondent has not seen any surveys showing a percentage of new gun owners for 2021. There have been about 12.5 million firearm sales through federally licensed dealers in 2021 by the end of August. There were about 13.5 million sales by the end of August in 2020.
Most of the approximately 476 million guns in private hands in the United States are unregistered and untraceable.
The estimate of guns sold is uncertain because not all sales go through the NICS system. About 10 million people with carry permits may purchase guns through federal dealers without going through the NICS system because they already went through the NICS to obtain their carry permit.

Read in my NRA magazine a few days ago that Remington ammo plant is starting back up. Hopefully, that will help supply some.
Like the kid in the old Shake ‘n’ Bake commercial, “And I helped!”
Ammo will remain short for years.
I’ve never seen anything like these past 2 years with regards to supply.
Folks who didn’t stack it deep way back are SOL unless you wish to pay enormous amounts for it.
My wife was finally dialing in on a .380 auto. I ordered her 1000 rounds before she even bought it (I figured she would).
I was thinking “Hmm - maybe 2000 rounds would be better....” (Kicking myself now).
She ran 200 rounds through it to prove that it works and get some practice. Got a training app and laser pointer that she can practice with. Not quite the same, but it can’t hurt.
There is an “Action Shooting International” event nearby in a bit and I’m hoping she’ll join me. Fun, relaxed shooting - but in a bit more “real” atmosphere of self-defense.
Now use them for what the founding fathers intended them for.

All of my guns are registered. Of course, due to losing them in that tragic boating accident last summer, it really doesn’t matter, does it? :)
And it’s nice to see that ammo is now available and the prices have come down a bit.
It’s selling like crazy though and places still limit ammo purchases, which I don’t have a problem with.
Sig P365 XL w RomeoZero & 15 rd. aftermarket mags
Much easier to carry than my P320 RX.
Maryland restricts handgun purchases to one a month, so I went and got a “Designated Collector” certification. It’s so nice to be able to have “N/A” display on the MSP 77R form which asks “have you purchased a gun in the last 30 days?”
>>>Since the election of President Obama in 2012, about 168 million guns have been added to the privately-owned stockpile in the United States. Nearly all of those guns are not registered. Only a few states require the registration of guns<<<
Was the Pistol that Hunter Biden purchased by falsifying the Federal 4473 Firearm Purchase Form “registered”?
If so, where is the Pistol he purchased? His Brother’s Widow illegally threw it in a Dumpster and it was never recovered as far as I know. Is it buried in the Trash Dump or does some Gangbanger have it? Asking for a friend.
Once the firearm is purchased, in most of the country there is no requirement to keep records of whether the firearm is sold to anyone, given away, or thrown away.
Thus, there is no national registration list.
There is a list of first retail purchasers. It is not the same thing.
I thought it was obvious that I was being facetious regarding Hunter committing a Felony by falsely claiming he was not a Drug User on the 4473 Form and not facing Justice for his Crime.
His Sister In-Law apparently got away with a Crime by improperly disposing of the Firearm near a School Zone to keep it away from her drug addled Lover. She carelessly left a Firearm where a Minor could have had access to it.
Gee, sounds like the same thing the Cop who murdered Ashli Babbit did, leaving his loaded Pistol in a Capitol Building Restroom where a Kid could have gotten ahold of it. Hmmm.
It is also interesting that GUN GRABBER Biden’s Home State of Delaware does not require Gun Registration or Licensing to purchase a Gun and Open Carry is Legal there.
Yes, it is interesting.
Thanks for the insight.
Wait a minute. That says that not all those guns are registered??? Huh?? All guns sold by federally licensed agent sellers are registered. They file all that crappy paperwork when I bought my Glock 40 cal, my AR15, my 12 gage, my .380, my new 9 mm pistol, my wife’s .38 short barrel for her purse and her .38 regular longer barrel gun for her nightstand, and my .306 with scope, All those were registered legally as purchased at a proper gun shop. So, the feds do have a record of everyone of the weapons I purchased over the past two years. How the hell can this article say all these guns are not registered? When you go to get your carry license here in my county, we are required to list a weapon that I will be carrying, but I can carry anyone or several, if I want to, but you still have to list at least one on the form when you go get your license here in my county in Alabama.
No worries, I was scuba diving and found then!!! :-)
No. See post 15.
